i'm currently a victim of this, which is why i now know the answers to this question, however , i need to let you know that i chose to wait it out and watch my traffic, implement on page and off page SEO, got rid of the guy incharge of directing quality human traffic to my site just in case its his shady ways. I also clicked on my own ads, and didn't know google hates this. i wanted to see what sites are being linked to my page and what type of ads etc. curiously. i also contacted all of my close people and just told them never ever click ads on my site.
Google calculates your pay out end of month, this is why the beginning of every month, this topic is everywhere. And google has amped it up on everyone. Google also does acknowledge sabotage. Any competitor or someone who despises you , or whatever reason can click on your site triggering invalid traffic bans, suspensions, limits.
The more i read these posts and comments, i now realise im in the lucky pot i guess. "Ads shown on my site have been limited", so its safe to say im in a better position comparing with your position, then looking at your position, you are in a better position that some that have been banned. Since no one knows the basis of these penalties, it's hard to reverse a ban.
Ad limit penalty doesn't have a specific time frame, google just indicates that "its usually 30days, in most cases it is less than 30 days, however in some cases it could be more than 30days". so i assume indefinitely to not get my hopes up. It is to my understanding ad limit wont be reviewed whatsoever. so you can not request a review, you just have to wait.
Ad suspension: same as ad limit. The only difference is you have a time frame. ad limit doesnt. it could be less than 30days or more than 30 days. From what i understand, with suspension, after you do you own investigations, if you know the cause or source of the invalid clicks or traffic, you can fill out a review form and send it to google. example, in your case, your mate clicked a lot, example im my case, if i was suspended i would let google know why i was clicking my own ads. This is only assuming google suspended you for that reason. Only they know, so you can only try. i advise, do not request a review unless you have done thorough research as to why, i have read situations where a suspension review was replied with a complete ban.
Ad Ban: we all know thats the worst position. Very unfair if you have done nothing wrong, especially in this sabotage era. you are the new cool kid on the block, dotting your I's Crossing your T's, killing it with SEO, content, social interaction, creativity , i mean the lot! a competitor can wipe you out just from invalid clicks. your ad revenue gone and google also punishes you by deindexing you.
Where to go from here,
From what i researched, you need to show google that you too are serious and do not want invalid traffic to your site. Invalid traffic is part of invalid clicks. apparently they fall in the same category. You need to vet your traffic referral sources and avoid cheap quality referral partners (looks like google is cancelling all low income demographics from the internet and using publishers to do the dirty work), add plug ins that protect you from invalid traffic. when you implement these, you can let google know, just as an FYI. apparently. dont know if this helps in the future but, its suggested that if you implement policies that filter out invalid traffic, you are on the same side with google, youtoo hate invalid trafic lol
The best solution as per my findings by those once affected, join an ad network. then google can deal with them not you. they have lawyers and know your rights and can stand up to the big giant. Also, apparently, if you are ad sense banned, a lot of these agencies dont want you. My solution is, as soon as my service limit is lifted, im joining a private network.this invalid traffic issues is now taking over.

Also, apparently, if you are ad sense banned, a lot of these agencies dont want you. My solution is, as soon as my service limit is lifted, im joining a private network.this invalid traffic issues is now taking over.
