Quit Day Job to work Online fulltime ?

Many individuals seem to sing the praise of working for themselves online, but is it really what its cut out to be ? How many blackhatters do online work be it content producing, affiliate marketing , web work etc and never looked back or never plan to look back and go into conventional 9 -5 work again ?

Can a family man or woman earn a living say for example just writing content ? When asked by someone what's your profession, what should one really say ? After spending so much money studying in university only not to have a job because of a company downsizing, recession or being layed off can you really stay afloat online ? Someone speak to me ? Does online work have a shelf life ?

I'm sure its possible but I wouldnt do it until I reach the point where I make so much money IM'ng that I am actually losing money putting the time into a 9-5 instead of IM.

I work online fulltime but it took an area of transition from offline to online. I probably
could make the money I make online, offline but I would have to go to work to do that.
If you don't have the mentality to consider online work as a self employed business
you should stick to the 9 to 5 slavery.

Like oxenbeef said, it comes down to your mindset. It also takes the ability to adapt to changes. It's a cliche term, but it's very true that you never want to put all of your eggs into one basket with online business.

I've been full-time for just over a year and plan to never go back to a 9-5. As far as what I tell people I do, I just refer to it as Internet Marketing, any further explanation just seems to confuse people.

@ oxonbeef , I guess it really is a mindset in that you have to be really very disciplined to know that if this is your bread and butter you gotta put your everything to make it work. My brother in law is an online marketer and believe me I see him work his ass off during the day and especially nights. Yes he travels as he likes etc. but he works for that money I tell you. Personally doing 9 - 5 seems easier in terms of the amt of energy you gotta put in and its a sure pay cheque at the end of it.

With online markerting you work for yourself and have that freedom, but if you don't hit your targets weekly, monthly or whenever rest assured your screwed.


@ Redtide , gosh I'm honoured in a way that you've commented on one of my threads. I've heard alot about you , well read alot about you and so far admire what you're doing. Thanks for your input and am hoping to learn as much as I can from you. Just keep your advise rolling you have more admirers than you think.

Set a goal for yourself. Is your house paid for? Thats mine.. Once im free n clear of that expense I will cut my 9-5. Im making good money online but how much is enough?

It definitely is different than working offline in some ways. If you are making money online regardless of how hard or simple it is its still work.....

I been working on online fulltime for awhile now and wouldn't have it any other way.

Some people can make it fulltime by working online while others can't. I wouldn;t commit fulltime until you are sure you can support yourself/family.

The sooner you can quit the 9-5 the better, whether you are fully ready or not. It's not just the grind that should be abandoned, it's the mindset the j-o-b naturally instills in most people one needs to ween yourself from.

The false stability of 'get a check every week or two' is a behavioral comfort zone drug that almost single handedly locks you into 'don't take a risk, don't ever take a risk' mode, and keeps your financial time horizon set at short term (3-5 weeks, or this paycheck and the next paycheck centered). It took me a year to 'mindset detox' to fully withdraw from job mentality. The faster you can get clean of it, the better.

I have the mentality to consider online work as my '9-5' - but I'm not yet in a position to kick my job as a result. Yet.

And I'm having my use my job (for now) as a means to fund mine and my partners' real life business (funny enough, dog grooming - nothing to do with IM or my other job!)... and to also pay for upscaling my IM things.

I've now reached the point where my online profits are meeting my online expenses. I still have a way to go but no I don't have to dig into my pocket so much to pay for what was previously a 'hobby'.

So true my friend, the mindset of those in jobs is such that they are under the illusion that they cannot exist without one.

Thankfully living in Australia I am blessed with both a free medical system and a social security unemployment payment so really no matter what situation you are in you can still give 'it' a shot, whether it be online or otherwise... but really the concept of job/occupation is such that people believe that they need it no matter what.

Irony being that I spent a few years after school/university just bludging around writing and making music and playing video games when I should have been doing IM like I am now...

...and now I have a full time job and a business on the side I am spend EVERY SINGLE SECOND of my spare time with my online stuff.

The hardest part is setting ambitious goals for yourself and staying motivated to achieve them. I think we all get comfortable in what we're doing here and forget to seek out more efficient alternatives to our systems or new opportunities in other niches.

I was losing money going to work so I quit. Now I'm making somewhat similar money working online-- while it's great to work for myself, the best part about all of it is that every day I work for myself online- I learn more and more. Seeing every day as an opportunity to advance your skillset is important!

i have just recently started the change to only work online out of the house and i am loving it yet.. i somehow miss the transactions i had with people at my old work place but no system is perfect and in the end i still prefer it this way(online) someone just has to set a goal for themselves of how much they can earn and how much their expenses are.

What you don't understand is that there are guys that are making millions of dollars, working online NO. With their internet businesses, yes. And at the point you realize that, stop talking about it like a job, and start your own business. Then you can do that yourself.

However you'll have less success just creating content, writing or whatever. Online.
The people that talk like that, get taken advantage of by people like (us?) I hope so, at least me.
To do everything for you, and at the end of the day your business becomes effortless.

Much more effortless than working at a 9-5 job.

Another thing that really helped with making online business a full-time thing was going in with a "do or die" mindset. I'd been laid off when the recession hit hard and made up my mind that I wouldn't be held back. I spent 2-3 months reading/researching here at BHW before even registering an acct, picked a single method and MADE it work.

When I first started with AC for example there wasn't a lot of in-depth info here about proper keyword usage, how to promote PV's, dealing with rejected articles etc. Through trial and error and a lot of hard work I've been able to make it pay off.

If you go into the vast majority of the methods here at BHW with a mindset of "I WILL do what it takes to make this work!", you definitely will.

The mind is a mighty powerful thing.

Until your checks from online are more than the ones you make at a full time job, don't even think about it.

Yes the rat race is bullshit, but you don't want to fuck up and go into bankruptcy.

What you do with your money earned online is the most important thing to ensure you don't need to return to a 9 - 5. I invest in property and trade heavily in the stockmarket and when I start to see decent money from IM coming in, it will complete my whole financial strategy.

Super true.
When I was 14 I didn't really like what or the way school taught things.
And then what continued after school.
I didn't get the concept of being hired by someone else when I could hire a person myself to make me richer.

So I said no to this totally horrible concept that everyone told me to accept.
Decided to do things on my own, become a billionaire (in my currency) and I put the do it or die concept on those things. Burned all bridges behind, I failed at school at my own will, so my parents or anyone, even myself couldn't push me back to that way of living.

And succeeded.

You're thinking too left-brain for this. You need to be a right-brainer to make it in this arena.

Its all what you make it. There are no exact rules set by nature (or by your boss) on what is or isn't capable in IM.

Are you comfortable with losing everything?

Are you okay with sleeping in your car until you get your first NET15 payment?

Choose wisely. I made my choice almost 4 years ago and haven't looked back since, but it wasn't always easy going. You've got to have an entreprenuerial spirit to make it.

Forget the days of getting a steady paycheck - those days are over.

Like I said, pick your posion. I don't mind not having a steady paycheck knowing that I'll make much more working much less. Its a process. Get ready for it, or go back to your day job.
