Where to start SEO for a eCom site

This is the first time I'm posting on this forum. I have started my own ecom business and looking to get some opinions from you guys to get an idea about where should I start.

I would say I'm not an SEO expert cause I have almost no previous experience in doing SEO. but have read blogs, BHW. so, got a big idea about what SEO is. Still, I'm afraid to start with SEO cause lack of experience. I know I should get into it to get experience but appreciate it if you can provide me some ideas.

I thought to have some press releases distributed and found a seller on this forum.

The site does not have much content. do you think I should spend on some articles first before getting into link building?

Also want to mention that i have already sold 2 products using google ads. but can't spend more on that. Even I got scammed by an ad account provider on here.

Your opinions are appreciated.

It's hard to get going from scratch if it comes to the SEO for the shop. Especially when u don't have a budget to do so. Focus on making profits and sales from ads and paid traffic and once you become successful then invest your money and time into SEO to get organic google search traffic.

If you have a local presence you could always start with business citations.
Those are pretty safe and many of them allow you to include a link to your website.
Might have to run some of them through an indexer though.

Once you get a decent amount of content up you can start sharing your blog posts online/forums/whatever and doing outreach for stronger links, etc.

Thanks. I will try to put more content. On the shitlist i have alredy posted my experience on a ongoing post.

im afraid losing money on ads cause i have no good experience on ads. Even on the ads i ran it cost me a lot and only got 2 sales. ROI was very little. My idea was if i invest that money on SEO it will rank for keywords someday and it will give some profits.

My business does not have a local presence since my market audience in aboard. So i target USA, UK.

I never use seo backlink for promote my ecom, I just focus on adwords and fb ads. Its best converting sales rather than seo. it need time...

how much do you think the budget should be to start with on FB ads? what is the average CPC on your campaign. do you mind sharing some experiences?

Create your Foundation links first. Create Accounts on all major social media sites and link back to your website... Create links to those social media sites first.

Once you have enough content, you can start creating backlinks to inner pages.

Make sure you spend time writing unique descriptions for your products.

Make sure you’ve got a good process in place for product specific customer reviews -in terms of receiving and displaying reviews.

I got some traction on FBA and a little on eBay but really want to get the website motoring. Luckily I've worked in journalism for many years so am able to write my own content.

Unless you have a very niche store with only a couple of SKUs, SEO for a shop sounds like a difficult thing to do. I would recommend you to use paid channels

when comes to internal linking what im doing is adding 1-2 links of the website on that post. isnt that the correct way ? reviews are already done.

lucky you were able to get content. since English isnt my mother tongues it's not easy for me to do that. thats a good idea to exchange skills. all i want is content so i will consider spending on it.

Can you give an idea about site structure. i never put much effor on it. just the navigation. and i would say its only 6 products. but very unique and not much available in europe/usa. I dont think category page can be arranged cause the site is within a small niche and its like 6 products in total. im using 2co as checkout partner and made it easy as much as possible. What do you mean by AB ads ? thanks

My niche is really narrow. It's like 6 products in a total and a unique niche. do you think getting ranked with informational articles is also hard with a shop? im afraid of losing my money on paid traffic.. i have no idea about how much i should spend on fb ads.

I definitely wouldn't start with facebook ads, since you would have to spend around $10k to even know what you're doing.
But what you should do is use Google Shopping Ads, it directly takes your products in front of an audience with buying intent, and it is much cheaper than Facebook Ads by a mile.

And if your product doesn't sell profitably on google shopping, I don't think you can sell that product with any organic traffic.

This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of technical SEO when building a site. Especially, if you have a plan to scale it.

How your site is structure affects the way search engine spiders will crawl it and this is just critical. I mean, you can have the best theme, servers, keywords, content, links, and all that but, if search engine bots are having a hard time crawling, indexing, and accessing your site, none of that will matter.

Unless, you´re looking to drive traffic through paid ads but, if you´re looking to drive traffic organically, I strongly suggest you dive into technical SEO first before diving into any other areas of SEO.

Other areas of the site´s architecture or how a site is a structure to keep an eye on are...

• Mobile-friendliness
• Core web vitals - soon to be a ranking factor
• UX
• Speed and performance
• Navigation - make sure all your top-level pages are 1 crawl depth away
• Internal links
• HTTPS

If all you have at this point are 6 products then you don´t have to worry too much about the site´s architecture just, keep it in mind if you ever looking to scale your business.

If I say I'm literally done with the on-page factors you have mentioned above, what do you suggest I should do next. Do you think I need much content as same as an authority site should have? or I'm good with few blog posts? To start backlinks is it a good idea to do a press release? If my keywords are not much competitive can I start with some pbn/guest posts?

Best thing to do is just dive in and stop been scared of SEO and practise what is been told to you, that is the best way to figure out, what works and what does not for you.
