Client does not to pay me for my job done

Hi all and thank you for advice. I have reached out to the owner of this shop that I have been working for.

Miracle happened, since the dude that owns me money is not quite smart and he f*** their business after I stopped working, the owner remembered what I have done for his business, so he offered me to manage whole marketing for his 5 shops, for 2k$ per shop.

Since I had a bad experience on fiverr in the past, the buyer bought the service for $ 100. After the job is done, cancel it for no apparent reason.

Even though it is clear that I am only a reseller job from seoclercks to fiverr.

Man I just let it slide and moved on. Then I came to realize If you work upfront for a client, he's gonna be reluctant to pay you. So it's best you get paid before you work. Just to prevent this from happening. I hope other freelancers will learn from this and not the hard way like I did. Cheers

Having a written & signed contract in place is a must for long term projects unless you are being paid upfront all the time. I have had several cases years ago when all of a sudden one decides to disappear with all the work and stuff w/o paying even though hey were reputable (speaking of one of the top #5 forums ATM, where a guy or two of those was a mod/admin with 7+ years of history).

That is what I have done with his client now, he is now paying me 100% upfront since he too understand what happened.

Do you understand why you should always work through Upwork now? I've hired for over 300 contracts on there and had conversations with the CEO about this. You pay their fee so that you are protected. You tried to save money and got none at all. Lesson learned - I hope.

Sorry man but $700 unpaid is not nearly enough to enforce a written contract. Have you never hired a lawyer? They are stupidly expensive.

Yes I have learned the lession for sure, but I did not wanted to leave it and forget it thats why I reached out to owners and made contract with him.

No way, they would ban me because I accepted to work out of upwork.

Depends on the country. Not sure about this particular case, but from where I live - throwing ~$50 on the table for confirming identities and signatures if you have the papers .. not sure if it is worth the risk to not to do it. Not sure. Just saying.
