also you say CTR is important. let's say i post a video like the one above, using a random word as title and no other keywords. it gets 0 (zero) impressions. how can a video get a good CTR if it has no impressions? how can you make youtube drive impressions to a video / topic that has no (or low) search volume.

So this channel has 1,000,000 subscribers. He doesn't need a good thumbnail or title to get views/impressions. His subscribers alone will handle all of that.

For newer channels, a Good Title, Attractive Thumbnail, and Good Quality Video are necessary.

the thing is, youtube does NOT send impressions to new channels - i tried with tens of channels in different niches, no impressions at all. Good Title, Attractive Thumbnail, and Good Quality Video are necessary - this is just the usual BS...

I'm sorry it's not working for you, there are more factors that come into play but this is one of my newer channels, just started about a month ago...

As you can see, it was getting impressions since the first day and within 2 weeks started getting traction. Sometimes it also takes time for Youtube to pick up your videos.

This channel is not even 2 months old and it only has 1300 subscribers. Also, I started this on an already monetized channel... From some recent case studies, I have found that Youtube does favor Monetized Channels a bit more because of the ads.

You have to be patient and adjust your videos title, description and thumbnails regularly. You will definitely find something that works!

How often are you uploading videos on a new channel like that?

Is changing the title and thumbnail of dead videos really effective? YouTube starts showing them to people again? Or they remain dead? I have a channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers but it kinda died and videos top out at around 2000 views now. Ones with higher click through rates and ones with lower click through rates. YouTube just doesn't seem to show them to any more people after that. Would it be worth changing the thumbnail and title once it tops out.

For the last couple of years, the trend has been stretching out videos to be at least 10 or so minutes long but in the last 2 or so months, I've been getting lots of shorter videos recommended. However, they are mainly old videos.

Would you say retention is now more important than watch time again or there is a new factor at play or this just is YouTube experimenting with pushing old videos and does not apply to new videos?

I did not promote that new channel from any of my old channels. 100% organic in a brand new niche.

Heres my guidelines for when to change a video's thumbnails and/or titles:

1: CTR> 10%, do not touch it.
2: CTR<10%, but you know the thumbnail is PERFECT, do not touch it. Give youtube some time to recommend it to the appropriate audience.
3: CTR <10% AND average view duration is over 40%, but you know the thumbnail and/or title can be better, change the thumbnail and/ or title.
4: If the CTR is <10%, and you the average view duration is less than 40%, definitely move onto your next video and just let it "die"

I still aim for longer videos as long as the quality/ engagement is still there. All of my videos are over 8 minutes long.

Yes exactly. Script, voiceover, then video edit.

You can monetize compilations but Youtube may demonetize that video at any time for copyright violations.

It's a bit tricky nowadays. Adding background music, commentary, and anything else to the videos do help but only by so much.

About 90% of my clients who do compilation videos do get demonetized so just be careful.

Make them transformative and join a managed network and channel will stay monetized, since de-monetization occurs automatically when YT system detects duplicate content. Or do the songs method.

That is the general rule although some people i know are still getting demonetized; however, when they re apply, they tend to get accepted. I had a channel get demonetized over a month ago and just re-applied on the 23rd. It got re-accepted. It's just youtube's machine demonetizing channels usually.

Google search only tells me that when you have 1000 subs+ you get community posts, but that is just you posting the video to your own community right? So how does it get you any traffic in the beginning of the channel? Are you posting to other people community boards/posts in their comments? Did I correctly see you say you pay $20-$100 for community posts on some pages? Does that mean paying another channel to promote your video to their community board?

Heya! I imagine that videos get displaced when they start "performing" better than the top 10 search results.

I must admit, your question is a bit hard to understand, but what I mean by "performing" better is that it gets a better CTR and on-page session time.

Put your main keyword upfront in your title and give it some time. Also make sure that it's a viable topic that people are searching for.

Do you do any kinds of promotion for your videos anymore or do you literally just upload them and then thats it? What would you recommend as the best promotion to do for a brand new channel?
