Hello,

15 days back got few extremely high DA backlinks. Two impacts:

1. Couple of days after adding backlinks, website went down from average position 13 to 20 for 1000plus keywords.

2. Google webmaster search console does not show those powerful links. Many other backlinks of low DA sites/forum posts are appearing in the webmaster list which were posted around same time.

Has anyone experienced similar situation?

Maybe it is the usual google dance, wait a couple more days to see what happens.

Thanks for very hope inducing response. But the problem is there is no dance. Position is tanked and now stuck there. I wish there was some up and down change.

1. doesnt have to be due to the backlinks, can be many reasons.
2. google doesnt show all links, just a tiny bit.
Understood.
I wonder, short of removing backlinks, if there is a way to find out if links were the reason...
I was hoping my site to move to first page and now it is on verge of dropping to the third.

Backlinks are not the cause of the problem

Maybe those backlinks were from extremely shitty websites that just manipulated DA on purpose...

Thanks for helping me with this issue. It is great to have someone to discuss perplexing SEO problems.

I am aware of that google sites trick that is being used to jack up ahrefs ratings (which recently ahrefs has stopped counting towards DR)

Before placing these links, I checked Anchors (historical), RDs, way back machine, google index status (many pages were indexed for each website), niche relevancy (broadly relevant) and each had different number of blog posts (4 to 12), premium theme, strong internal links, hosted with different hosts and OBL to authority and non-authority sites.

These were the most clean and highest authority links I ever got in last three years of SEO. Still scratching my head and trying to understand what did I miss?

Was ranking for 1000 plus keywords before placing these links and now not only ranking is down but google has removed my website for many keywords and it is ranking for only 600keywords.

Hoping that it was something else and website will bounce back in a week or two.

Update. Google webmaster tool is now showing all new backlinks (the ones I was hoping to benefit from).

1. You did nothing along with the backlinks? I mean there could many reasons why website lost rankings and traffic

2. I read your response above and anchors/referring domains/google index status are not enough to say that backlink is powerful

First of all, is your backlink getting traffic? I mean, you get backlink from website that is ranking in Google and is acting like a real website, right?

Have you checked everything Ahrefs? All the historical data? and there was no issue?

Maybe that 'powerful backlink website' is used for backlinks. There are many sellers who just publish content that is sold. So, Google already knows that those websites are used for backlinks.

Thanks

1. There were some really bad links appearing in google webmaster links report (2000+ domains) and I disavowed those domains and added these new powerful links. Two days later my website tanked. I have now removed the disavow file and you are right that this can well be because of that. But that is a possibility which I think is very low probability. Links were really bad (porn sites and repetitive keywords). I will be very shocked to learn that those bad links were helping my website in ranking and removal of those links (by disavow tool) was the cause of drop in ranking.

2. New backlinks are from websites indexed in google but not getting any traffic (Ahrefs shows zero traffic). Historical data shows excellent anchors (brand and home url mostly) and great diversity of RDs.

I have worked on over 20,000 SEO campaigns for my clients, and I did always notice some website temporarily drop in rankings right after pushing some quality link juice to them.

The good news is that the rankings, usually 1-2 weeks later, crazily fly up in rankings and in some cases shoot up to top 3 positions on Google.

I do not think you should worry much, and just give it a few weeks and see what happens from there as the link juice seeps in.

Just to clarify: I have no idea what kinds of links you purchased, so I cannot say for sure if your case is similar to this phenomenon.

Good luck

Most likely its bad luck, there's lots of randomness in the google algorithm, you can do the exact same thing to two domains and one will rank the other will not

However, powerful backlinks can harm you in some circumstances. a 2-month old domain with no type-in traffic shouldn't be generating powerful backlinks -- google would be suspicious if it did.

It's too early for this backlinks.
You should wait a couple of weeks

Maybe those low quality backlinks were working great and after you disavowed them shit happened?
