The Guide to TikTok Verification by @Putt

I’ve created this thread to share the newest set of requirements for verifications on TikTok. As with everything I say, this information has come directly to me from a TikTok representative.

Many of you will be aware of the old policy of if you’re verified somewhere else, you’re verified on TikTok. This is no longer the case. TikTok is also currently unverifying a fairly large number of accounts.

In 2021, this is your checklist for verification:

EITHER:
  • Verification on Instagram, Facebook, (maybe) Snapchat
  • At least 500k followers and 7M likes
  • Inherent notability in the offline world
    AND:
  • You must be a “substantive creator” meaning being popular for dance trends or similar is not acceptable. You need an actual audience, not just ‘TikTok fame’.
    AND:
  • An account that “uphold TikTok’s values of community and togetherness”; this obviously means sticking within community guidelines but also being a good role model. Trying to skirt around the rules won’t fly.

I’ve submitted quite a few requests via my account manager recently and they are definitely becoming more strict. Agencies that submit large amounts or a low quality of requests will have everything reviewed in great detail. Trusted agencies get more discretion and can push through more ‘borderline’ accounts.

A lot of other agencies that have histories for gaming the system are seeing lots of rejections but my submission seem to be okay.

Happy to answer any questions about TikTok or creator relations / verification on any social media platform.

Hey @Putt I just DMd you, this is very helpful as I manage quite a few TikTok accounts, some of which have millions of followers. The one in question is bothering me as I believe she should have been verified a long time ago. I DMd you about it.

Hope you can help! Thanks.

Useful. thank you
Thank you! I'm glad I could help.

Received and replied. I'm more than happy to get that done for you.

You bet. TikTok are investing a lot of money into their trust and community teams. There are plenty more changes to come. Nearly every week, my account manager emails me to update me of a policy change or a new way they are changing the platform.

That should be enough to qualify you. You need to find an agency or talent manger who has an account manager at TikTok to submit your request.

It would be great if you would be allowed to disclose the things he writes/tells you. :-)

Nice thread!

They know I

Nice thread!
I try to share things that people find useful. Most of the information I get is about verifications & creator/brand services. When I get info about the algorithm, I try to share.

Thanks for this, very interesting.

Now I am confused about unverifying, why would that be? When they find out someone took over a verified account that wasn't verified to them? I know they get sold.
Or why? They have obviously verified these accounts for some reason. Not even IG does that as far as I know. Very odd.

They're old guideliens used to let a lot of low-quality influencers become verified. They no longer think they are worthy of verification so they remove the check.

They're the only platform to substantially change their guidelines and rather that grandfathering, they're re-evaluating a number of accounts.

damn that's harsh . like you got promoted and then they go like never mind :( that cold!

makes buying a verified account on any social media seem risky to me. but they do get sold, for high prices.

Hi @Putt I'm researching for getting verified on TikTok but can't find an e-mail or the link where should I send the submission for getting verified. I'm also verified on Instagram but can't find a button to apply for it! Can you give me a clue please?

Thanks in advance

Verification submissions are submitted through TikTok Client Account Manager. Similar to the Facebook Media Partner Portal in that it's only available to high spend or high value agencies.

Thanks for the share, mate:)
I have one question though, Is it possible to verify not personal but a niche account with videos of others (like youtube or insta) with my own twist?

It is very, very tough but if the application was angled in the right way, it could probably be done.

Sorry but I really don't get this "TikTok Client Account Manager". Could you be more specific where can I find this!?

Haven't checked out TikTok for a while. I thought they had implemented separate verification service long before US ban. Neat write-up.
