Google Maps Bill

I have been using Google Maps API for awhile now to develop an app. Today I got a bill from Google for $5000 and my account got temporary suspended for not paying the amount. I was shocked seeing this and I'm a bit worried if they chase me after for this. Will I get in trouble if I don't pay this?

All I can say according to google you were a map user I suspect and asked to upgrade.

Some think must happen and you upgraded or used all credit, according to google you need a credit card to get google maps since 2018.

Don't understand you got a bill you never upgraded?

Google must have your credit card on file for you to get billed?

You receved an email I would contact them if I was you, could be a scam, if you didn't upgrade.

I didn't even launch the app to be honest. It's still in works and we are still testing. I'm just worried that this may be a problem later on. And yes, I do live in a third world country.

That sucks! But, Google has all the info, all the maps, all the street views.. so they can name their price, I guess.

I would be paranoid to get on Google's bad side. Some people will say it's not a big deal; others will say (from their own experience) that pissing off Google is bad, because they often (almost always?) know who you are and what sites you run.

Have you seen Google's pricing structure: https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/pricing/#matrix So how in the world did you rack up a $5,000 bill!?!?!?! Must be a LOT of requests.. so THAT is encouraging for you!

Do you have such huge consumption of their services to justify the bill? If your app is not even launched yet something is fishy.

Yes! Exactly! They charged around $3000 just for Places API which is crazy. I wanted to contact them but as I'm currently in my homeland which is a 3rd world country, their support is always bad. If I don't pay, do you think I will get in trouble?

Most probably you will be able to get away with it. But still you can try fighting against the bill because you are only using maps only for development purposes
