You don't need domains related to your niche with pbns.
All the domains I do in their original niche because that creates a better, longer lasting pbn that maintains its power.
And then I put them in a general niche, but for example..
Tech niches aren't general tech blogs.
One of them is about naval engineering.
The other was a piece of software.
Another was a cloud computing company.
Another was a company selling a camera.
Another was a watch gadget.
None of these are really related to any of my clients. How many cloud computing clients am I going to have? Or how many naval engineering clients?
In the pets niche the one domain I have there so far is about french bulldogs. Does that mean only french bulldog sites can use it? No of course not, and I will add anything related to general pets/animals there. Google doesn't penalize you for writing about things in your broader topic, that would be silly.
There is no such thing as a "tech" niche, or a "pets" niche. They are SUPER broad topics. Naval engineering technology has nothing to do with cameras, but they are both tech.
The niche categories just make it easier to write about certain topics.
If your site is about a game, you can have articles on tech, because gaming is tech. You could have articles on the travel blogs about games while travelling. You could have articles on the sports blogs about gaming olympics and competitive gaming, you could have a blog post on food & drink about typical gamers diets, or good nutrition for serious gamers.
This is how the web works anyway. It would be a pretty strange web if only reptile sites linked to other reptile sites.
The power from pbns comes from the fact it's a homepage link. You are directly tapping into the juice.
You could literally just place a link to your games site on the homepage of a reptile blog and get a big boost.
The reason I talk about related posts in my guides is because I'm talking about guest posts. Guest posts are WEAK. They are fresh pages on a site with no juice. There is NO such thing as site authority. None. A site is only a collection of pages. It really doesn't matter how strong the homepage is if you're getting a link on a fresh orphaned page. If you get internal links from other articles, or your article appears in a homepage or category feed that's different, but very few guest posts have that.
So when you are doing custom outreach, and really this ONLY counts for custom outreach. Buying guest posts you won't get properly related links either. If I had a reptile site, I would first try and obtain links, whether it's guest posts, niche edits or homepage links, any type of link, from sites that have topical authority for reptiles. This helps my site gain not only link juice but topical authority.
There are 2 distinctive things with google.
1 is topical authority and the other is power. You gain topical authority from links from other topically authoritative sites in your niche, and by having content with good internal linking on your own site covering the niche in depth.
Power you gain mostly from links. You get a little juice from every article you create on your site. Every article you create comes with a little juice.
This is the very reason pbns are so ridiculously powerful. Real pbns that is. $20 expired pbns are near worthless unless you had 100's and $100-$200 domains with 20-50 posts on the homepage are equally garbage. $100 to $5k pbn domains with 10 posts on the homepage are strong. When you're approaching the $700-$1k domain mark it's very profound.
pbns are built for one thing. To pass JUICE. Power.
We just want to make them look a bit more natural, and repurposing domains, or building 100's of them with spammy content doesn't do that.
So you should keep their original topic the same, create some articles in that topic, then expand with articles in the broader niche and you have a nicer looking pbn.
Even with a private pbn don't waste your time with topical authority. All you want is that link from the homepage, and to make the pbn look as real as possible.
You will get exactly the same results from any pbn whether your niche is reptiles, plumbing, gaming or a clothes ecommerce store.
The articles connect the niche of the pbn with the page you're linking to as closely as possible without looking strange.
