What the hell is this COVID about?

You're supposed to wash the mask and get rid of it after a few times of use
Yup, wash every time ONCE you come back from outside.
i read the package which my country authority gave those cloth mask, it stated used up to 30 times.

If you think about it, the mask is supposed to stop the virus. If it stops the virus, then the virus is on the mask.

I see people take off their masks and wipe the sweat off using it. I mean....the virus is gonna win every time if people continue being this stupid and misled by their leaders.

When you see that the average global age of people dying is 82... you can only laugh at the governments, no one actually looks at the statistics, its crazy

... because there are SMART PEOPLE.

and what I hate the most are texts like:
"It could have been your grandparents."

As if there are no other threats...

Who's your leader, Bart? :D

HAVE YOU NOTICED HOW THERE'S ALWAYS A FIREFIGHTER AT THE SCENE WHERE THERE'S FIRE???

FIREFIGHTERS SPREAD FIRE

THE SAME WITH COVID

THERE'S ALWAYS A DOCTOR AT PLACES PACKED WITH VIRUS

I THINK DOCTORS SPREAD THE VIRUS ON PURPOSE

THIS THREAD IS SO FUCKING REVEALING

THE VIRUS IS SPREADING BECAUSE PLACES ARE CLOSING! RESTRICTIONS = INCREASE IN VIRUS!!! YOU'RE SO FUCKING BRILLIANT.

TAKE YOUR STUPID CONSPIRACY CRAP SOMEWHERE ELSE

thats why i hate the police...everywhere i see a police car theres an accident.. its crazy

Why are you okay with elderly people dying sooner?
Why are you ok with millions of people globally going through financial turmoil and losing their jobs and businesses for a disease with a morbidity rate of 0.03% where 94% of deaths probably weren't even COVID?

Also, I'm not ok with elderly people dying sooner, it fucking sucks and is incredibly scary for them and sad for their families.

But sometimes reality kicks in and you have to be able to look at the whole situation - what you think that 16M people in one month losing their jobs in the US won't lead to a) a bunch of suicides (of people in the prime of their life, not the end of it), b) depression and mental health problems galore, c) drug addiction + longterm uptick in crime, d) mass domestic abuse for children and women globally? (hint: it already has)

So don't give me a sob story about old people dying without considering the damage that's being done to people across society by losing the ability to generate an income.

If this was the only way then of course it makes sense, but if the stats are bullshit anyway and countries where masks aren't being worn are doing significantly better than ones where they are militantly enforced, then why don't you care about getting a result that actually solves the problem and overts all of the hardship that's coming down the pipeline instead of regurgitating what you're told to regurgitate by the news mate?

It's called critical thinking. Give it a go.

The morbidity rate would increase as hospitalizations increase and other things will become more deadly. If Hospitals are full how are doctors and nurses going to treat the other ailments and injuries that occur as well as they normally could.

THIS VIRUS IS REAL.

Last night I got a message from my Broadband service provider that they are now offering a 200MBPS plan at a much lower fee than what I a paying for my 100MBPS. I contacted my area contractor (who installed this broadband at my home) and some lady picked up. I said, can I please talk to mr.name and she said no.

I was like.. so when can I talk to him.. she said you can't.

I said.. can I have his alternate number, she said no.

I said .. being a bit frustrated.. why? She replied.. because he and his wife are dead due to coronavirus. I so regret raising my voice (I know it wasn't an offensive tone or anything.. but it still made me feel so bad)

I know this guy personally and he has 2 children one 13 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl.

Covid-19 pandemic is REAL.

I guess that means people should be allowed to drink and drive too right? Your life, your risk. WHO CARES about anybody else lol
Not exactly. If you get sober behind the wheel, you take the risk that a drunk guy will knock you from the opposite direction. Don't you? :)
Likewise, the limit of sobriety is different in every country. Likewise, the restrictions are different in each country. The trick is that there are a lot of goofs.
Obviously, you can't let drunk people drive cars. But comparing it to a virus with such a lethality is poor.
It's like when someone writes "every day more people die in accidents" and people in their pants write "but accidents don't spread"...

sh*t man there is NO ONE who said there's no virus. If anybody thinks the WHOLE WORLD is in conspiracy, they are pretty fuccing fucced up. We are talking about the legitimacy and basis of these restrictions...

And that's what I mean.
"People rarely die with only one underlying disease."

And it's happening every day, since 1000's of years.
But now, when covid became "famous", people are scared.

And as I said: There's definitely a virus. But it's probably not an super deadly virus and we don't need to CLOSE EVERYTHING to survive. And the thread is about the politics (somehow stupid) decisions. For me, it looks like maybe 99% scared people are politics. And it's strange :)

"it's probably not a super deadly virus" Is that your medical opinion? How do you know so much? Where did you go to school :P How do you know we don't need to close everything to survive? Share with us your plan that's so much better? lol Is the plan to just let people with pre-existing conditions die off?

I'm sure we can both agree that old people dying from COVID is a really bad thing, right?

We can also agree that people losing their jobs and businesses en masse is a bad thing as well?

So the only thing we disagree on is that you think the first one is a bigger problem, and think it's the second one. It doesn't mean that I don't care about old people dying, and it doesn't mean that you don't care about people losing their businesses, but we're perceiving each problem at different scales.

Where did you go to school :p
A top 20 global university studying science, seeing as though you asked.

And it is pathetically non-lethal relative to other diseases, as shown by the stats. 0.03% is its lethality IF you don't take into account that so many deaths have had comorbidities that would likely drive that figure down by a factor of ten.

You can break down the whole Coronavirus debate into this: Rationality vs. Emotionality.

Some guys say: look at the statistics, its not so dangerous. Why killing the whole economy and millions of people are going to suffer from losing their jobs, getting into depression or killing themselves. Thats the rational approach.

The emotional approach is: OMG the virus is dangerous I have to wear a mask, hide and buy as much toilet paper as possible. look at the numbers how many people get infected and die!!! omg!! we could easily and die and our grandparents die too!! omg!!!

Thats basically what you see, hear and read all the time. The people are in a clash with each other.

But here is what really pisses me of: That somehow statistics and facts are no longer important. This whole stuff around the virus is completely blurred. No one talks about how the number of cases is NOT important, because just because you have been tested positive, it doesn't mean you get sick (no symptoms).

Then there is this huge question about the mortality. Average age of death is 82 years. Most people who die are older than 90. I worked in a hospital myself and I can tell you guys: If a person who is older than 80+ (depends on their condition) gets a pneunomia, flu or anything like this it can be fucking deadly. What I want to say is: People with a very week immune system are always at a risk when they get sick.

Actually I dont give a fuck about the virus or any government. I care about if it actually makes sense to have lunatic security measures for a virus, where the mortality rate is so low (and maybe even lower!).

For myself, I am making money online. I don't have any problem. But I can see the people around me, who have a 9-5 job are going fucking NUTS. Two of my friends even tried to kill themselves, because they have/had an offline business. Many others got into a depression, lost their job and income.

The independent livelyhood of million of people are getting destroyed. Not only of the 9-5 guys, but also business owner...book stores, restaurants, bars, etc. How far will they take it? What are you going to do about it?

Well.. Why can't we just let people drink in drive? It's nowhere near as lethal as COVID.

"In 2016, 10,497 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for 28% of all traffic-related deaths in the United States."
https://www.cdc.gov/motorvehiclesafety/impaired_driving/impaired-drv_factsheet.html
I mean jeez. It's just 10,000 people. That's nothing. Who cares if a few people die eh? We should be allowed to do what we want! They're just trying to control us.

... that's what you sound like hahahah :P

If preventing people from drink driving caused 1,000,000 deaths, and allowing them to drink drive caused 10,000 deaths, we would let people drive drive all day long.

Look up the term "zero sum game", then think about how that concept might apply to the discussion we're all having.

Two of my friends even tried to kill themselves, because they have/had an offline business. Many others got into a depression, lost their job and income.
And this shit's being mirrored a million times over all around the world right now.

The whole comparison between drink & drive and the virus is wrong. Drinking & driving is not "spreading" like a virus. Yes, you can be unlucky a drunk driver is crashing into your car, but the chance is incredibly fucking low it is going to hit you. With a virus on the other hand its completely different. The more people are infected, the higher is the chance you are going to get infected sooner or later.

The only question: With all the facts given (mortality rate, age of death, etc.) what is the best approach to deal with the situation? Japan, Korea and Taiwan had a very decent approach. China had a draconian approach, but to be fair with them: They had no idea what they were dealing with. Could have been way more deadly.

By the way: Does anyone know why China suddenly stopped to report the number of cases? I asked some of my chinese friends today. They told me this: Their gov. did lots of research with the best scientists of their country and they came to the conclusion the virus is not so dangerous and its not worth it to destroy the whole economy. Also, they said, the number of cases is irrelevant, because the most people who were tested positive have no symptoms. Why I am wondering western media never actually started to investigate why China stopped reporting the number? I never heard any explanation. Maybe they don't want us to know the reason?

Not saying people shouldn't wear masks. I'm saying that this counteracts what you would expect to happen.

i.e. wouldn't it make more sense that Sweden would be seeing much larger COVID numbers consider they have been maskless for literally the whole pandemic? But that's not the case, so... just ignore that?

Hard to take that serious when it's just one picture. Yes not properly using a mask could ultimately cause you to get infected. But there are so many different factors at play too.

You do know, younger people die from it too right? And how do you know "94% of deaths probably weren't even from COVID"? What are you credentials to make that assumption? You are just smarter than the scientists and medical professionals?

You do know too that COVID can cause heart attacks and strokes right? Or that it can cause lifelong damage/effects even if you survive it? But I guess you know know all this already because you're a professional :p

There’s at least 5 diseases where there are more daily deaths than covid yet it was never an issue... instead of banning fast food, banning cigarette and alcohol, they care so much about us for covid... sure they do.

Ok, well if the chances are so low of being hit by a drunk driver, then why don't we just legalize it.
