I don't know about new Macs but mine mid 2015 top model since I bought it in early 2016 works perfectly I been windows user whole life, and still have windows laptop for some other things but personally I would not switch back to windows everyday whatever these tech-gurus have to say..

Well, fair enuff. The most important part is the fact that your setup works for you (and not against you). This thread was targetted more to people who are looking to buy a mac right now. It will be a bad, bad decision to buy a mac before they release the new processor.

While I tend to agree with Linus on this, he does have a massive bias towards Macs given his field is primarily windows machines.

I'm not really into macs, but I may try an arm based mac laptop. I think they will finally solve their thermal issues by switching to arm.

My macbook is cold 24/7.. no whiring, no bs, no excessive heat.. using photoshop and illustrator at the same time, with music playing through Apple Music, and 6 different windows with about 20 tabs in each (Chrome, FF and Brave).

Anyone that hates Macbooks needs to save their pennies and try one out.

I sure do hope so. I mean, ARM processors are famous for that. The problem is with how apple thinks about hardware. Don't be surprised if apple puts something that makes those processors not dissipate heat quickly enough. They want you to buy more and more.. that's their business model.

Hopefully mac's switch to ARM will cause more support by windows and by extension more makers of ARM based laptops. It would be pretty sweat to have a laptop with something like 72 hour battery life.

I gave up! I ended up buying the new M1 mac mini. Gonna arrive in January. I wouldn't lie, I am hyped up.

Long story short, if you gotta use apple developer/xcode (vm is just too unreliable, plus the account must be already blacklisted); there's no way you are gonna do it without a mac. :/

No worries now I have everything, starting from a mac, to a ubuntu/win 10 licenses one (well, 3 actually), and a raspberry pi.I can't be termed as a "newbie" can I be?
It had nothing to do with a better OS btw lol. Only had to do with using the Transporter app, which costed me almost $1k. Shitty apple tactics paid off finally.

As for Adobe software, well.. Adobe could easily release a version for Linux if they wanted to. I have no idea why they wouldn't want to tap on this segment of customers (probably has to do with having a subscription based software on an open source OS? I dunno). I would probably buy the subscription if they made it available for linux some day.
Other than that, everything runs on Ubuntu... I mean, everything I need..

This is why I keep switching back from Ubuntu (Mint) to Windows.

Recently got a Win 10 license too, works like a charm on i7 4770 with 16gb. But I miss the thing in Linux if some screen would freeze I could killed it and the OS keep running.

Doesn't Del + Ctrl + Alt do the same thing? It doesn't probably have that kill -9 pid command though. Win 10 is pretty stable these days by the way (except for when it decides to update). So, don't worry that much haha.

Yes you could kill processes with task manager, only if you managed to get there and right click to kill the task, haha! ... However, forced updates are kind of breaking the user experience.

Side note - I mentioned I got the m1 13" macbook recently. Don't get the 8GB version, it's weak as fuck and can't handle normal operations (3 different browsers open at one + spotify + vpn makes it glitch).

When the 16" M1X version comes out I'm selling this and getting that with 32GB ram - this has been driving me insane.

** Really substandard actually from Apple - how you can sell an 8GB version of this that can't run normal applications 2 weeks after buying new is ridiculous.

You can't the ram is integrated with the CPU in a SOC.
