I think what you guys are missing, is the fact that I like to use my laptop for both gaming and work.
A PS5 will not allow me to stay active on Guild Wars II, for example, and neither would a lightweight laptop or desktop, while traveling.
Also, I don't want to have to haul around both a Playstation and a laptop, while traveling. I'd rather just have a laptop. It's easier and more convenient. Also worth mentioning, I've stayed at several supposedly high end hotels in different areas that had televisions that do not have HDMI ports. Again, it's just far more convenient for me to just have to worry about carrying around one device.

I did check out the Acer Nitro, and I really liked what I saw. I just happened to like this more:

I was about to buy an MSI before deciding on this one. MSI has a laptop for around the same price as the 2020 Helios 300, and I've always wanted an MSI, anyway, BUT...
There was one major issue [to me] with it (aside from the specs not being quite as good as the Helios 300).
The problem was that it has no number pad. This may not be a big issue to some, and I didn't realize how big of an issue it is for me, until my primary laptop died and I've been using this backup laptop as the replacement. This laptop has no number pad. I hate it. I didn't realize how often I use and rely on having a number pad, and so if I'm paying $1200+ for a laptop, it better have a number pad! lol.

Why always compare laptops and desktops? They have their own advantages and we can get both. I have the same setup in my laptops and desktop, and I put all my works in a cloud that is auto sync. That way I can switch between them easily, whenever I want.

Don't do it my friend, wait for the RTX 3000 series to release, it's cheaper than the 2080, it's the biggest leap in GPU ever seen before with the cheapest price ever seen before, Next few months is unprecedented times for GPU.

Yes, laptops and desktops mostly serve different purposes, with the main one [in my opinion] being portability.

So far, I'm loving this laptop!
There is one slightly annoying issue, but I'll see how things go over the next few days.
I did enjoy a few sPvP fights in Guild Wars 2 on MAXIMUM settings and with 0 latency issues, so that was great (I did need to overclock in order to play it smoothly)!

Just amending my text. I did not need to overclock it to enjoy the game, lag-free, with the maximum settings (even on WiFi). There was just one moment when I did, while the game was still downloading, along with other simultaneous downloads. Before someone asks, yes, you can start playing Guild Wars II BEFORE all of the game content is downloaded.
Those are pretty decent mid-tier specs, depending on the RAM. Though if I were you, I'd push for at least 512GB SSD. 256GB fills up quickly if you're a gamer.

It depends on the game, but you are correct. For most modern games, those specs will require most of the graphics tuned to lower settings. It'll get the job done, but the games likely won't look all that great. They'd look just okay, at best.
I had a laptop with similar specs but with an older graphics card and was a bit more dated. I could game with it, but I was always left with a feeling of emptiness and wanting more from the games.
PRO-TIP: If you do buy that laptop, close your web browsers and don't use WiFi if you can get away with not needing to use them. If you're not near your router to run a cat-6, then use one of these:

That was probably my 4th favorite purchase of 2020. Just plug it into any wall outlet and then either use it as WiFi or run an ethernet cable from it to your computer and it's FAST AS HECK!!
