Ok so I'm new to VPS(As i m giving up on shared hosting) and i bought one for 12 months but got no clue how to properly choose.

The VPS will be used for Wordpress(Websites hosting) mostly and I m trying to debate between the CentOS 7 and CentOS 8. As i see, a Cpanel isn't compatible with CentOS 8 which makes it difficult.

Should i go for CentOS 7?

centos 8, because centos 7 does not support ngnix

You can access via ssh (putty) or You need control panel for vps, you can use paid control cpanel or free centos cwp (centos 7). Or other control panel you can find on google.

If you are an expert and confident in managing the server using ssh access you can go forward without cpanel on centos 8.
If you have multiple sites and the required budget, I suggest you to go with cpanel. Without cpanel it will brings you trouble and eat you time for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Going foreward with latest centos is good for the stability and security aspect but at the cost of your time.

Hope it helps.
Thank you

Aight i did that.

So what should i use to access the VPS? Please! Thanks.

Use ssh client - putty for controls, etc (pretty easy to learn everything).

And you will need file manager. I use winscp but you can go with filezilla if you are more familiar with it.

You will need to install web server in order to host websites. Again, if you prefer to use apache, just google how to install lamp on linux server.

But I recommend ngnix for wordpress sites because it’s way faster. There are many tutorials, just google and follow the steps. You will learn everything you need in progress.

Thanks a lot mate. Any legit / good tutorial to follow? I m searching around but all i find are Indi stuff which i can't exactly understand lol.

use ubuntu 18.04 or centos(i am not familiar with centos) then install virtualmin which is alternative to cpanel and its free also, i am using virtualmin to host my websites on vps

If you are not expert in server management, you can easily install Cpanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin through the documentation.

I used plesk when starting out, it’s fairly cheap and is great for beginners.

managing vps now a days is hassle free, you can do both self hosted panels or cloud hosted panels, serverpilot is the example of cloud hosting panel. for self hosted panels both paid and free versions are there, cPanel is paid and CWP Panel is free.
Now a days almost all tasks can easily be managed via GUI interfaces of different panels you dont need to be an expert of Linux to host your site on Linux based container or dedicated server

It's fine, I've done it.

As for any other beginners: Just Google it. You'll find out the ways pretty fast.

if its a issue with control panel try hestiacp. i'm using it for couple of months and i didn't have issue with it

1. Install Centos 7 on your VPS
2. Install Cpanel/WHM
3. If you dont want to install cpanel, and want a free solution then i recommend "Centminadmin" (But you should be good with linux commands for it)
4. After installing these things, Just setup WHM (Nameservers) Etc
5. If you dont want to setup Nameservers & Shit then use cloudflare, You only need ip to setup in cloudflare, It take like 5 mins.

If you get whm, it will be easy for you to manage the vps.

Centos 7 + OpenLiteSpeed + Cyberpanel ( & LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress site )
