Whats you biggest SEO mistake?

I haven't started doing it in 2010

Yup! I have this pain in my head "what could have happen if..." and I started it back then, got 3 domains and unfortunately... Never got to see where could I be today... I still got pretty solid 6 figure income in the next year, and it was great for next few years and it just went down...

Anyway...

My biggest mistake was not buying enough of domains and work on them as that was my first and original plan decade ago!

Giving the first priority to SEO
My biggest SEO mistake was to waste time on SEO.

I should have jumped into PPC ads from the get go.
Pretty much this. I've spent way too much time getting free traffic, when I should've spent more time learning how to buy traffic. SEO should be a channel, not your entire business (unless you're running an SEO agency of course).

Such a good thread. I imagine some checklist of 'how to not...' and the best quotes from the comments.

My website was stuck on 12th spot in Google for quite some time..
I read a post on BHW featuring a tool that basically suggest keywords to add on your page to increase relevancy.

I did that and Google slapped "over-SEO penalty" on my website.

It never recovered even after I removed the content :D

So, what is your solution to getting stuck on page 2?

why is that. i thought SEO mattered more. what if you stopped paying for PPC would you get traffic to your site only by paying?

I thought keyword research is a one time process.... that was the big mistake of my failure and not knowing about pillar keywords and supporting keywords and doing a proper silo structure.

Starting most of my projects on fresh domains, instead investing in aged ones that would’ve indexed and grown a lot faster.

Nah, SEO should not be the main focus, main focus should be to create a great offer, a great digital experience, and have great content.

If you do that then people will do the SEO for you (i.e share your links).

But I would rather focus on PPC, if I stop buying traffic (and you don't have a great offer) then traffic stops. That's how you know you need to improve your offer and digital experience.

100% but the gurus wont tell you this!

Seems like everybody's mistake was not doing enough a decade ago when times were different. I fall into that same category. Had I known what I know now things would have been much different. 2010 was an amazing time period.

Not staying consitent with projects is my biggest mistake in SEO. Taking the short route for quick money than long term investment I would trade anything to have spent time and money into a huge project then focus on making a quick $400 a day with small sites and spamming.

But you live and you learn, time is the ultimate essence.
