Why is it that there is often listings in the 3 pack for various niches that have no reviews/bad reviews, aren't KW optimized and have no backlinks or juice and sometimes not even a domain name at all? And how do they so often manage to outrank listings that are doing everything correct?

Thanks

Thats odd. Maybe there physical location on the map is right next to you lol.
That would be the only other way.

So a listing that isn't optimized, has no reviews or backlinks can outrank a good listing if its right next to it? that doesn't seem right lol

I see it happen all the time.. almost blank GMB out ranking huge companies with hundreds of reviews and posts.. im trying to figure out how they do it as well

Pretty much once they make a gmb, google “somehow” initially rank them where ever. until the next update that might drop there spot or keep it.. stupid I know.

So is it just luck they have ranked in the 3 pack?

You can call it luck I guess

Is it better to embed driving directions map or the usual Google business map?

I've seen services offer tons of pins circling the business location , that Google see that as spammy?

It does not work only based on the listing, Also it sees how this listing presence across the web. I mean it sees your website presence, and other listing like Facebook, Yelp, and other business directory sites. use same name, address, and contact info it helps in rank.

In one of my niches the 3 pack has no reviews, no citations, 1 doesn't have a website and the two others that have a website have no backlinks or citations. Listing 4, 5 and 6 have citations, reviews and backlinks. Listings 5 and 6's websites have better DR and UR than listing 4.

I just start with gmb optimisation, but i see it as well. Sometimes it take just time for you to outrank them. Also, physical distance can make a huge difference. I see the most valuable factors backlinks to website + citations.

Yes absolutely right, citations+ backlinks to GMB plays an very imp role but indexing the citations is the most important task.

Honestly, i never use any indexing service. Maybe, if i will - i got results faster, but usually i create citations on directories and authority sites. These sites are crawled by Google spider multiple Times per day, and it mean - my citations / links got indexed in 48h max.

That Pins are useless and never help for GMB ranking.

Thats great if your citations got indexed in 48 hrs--but personally I have worked on lot of citations and they never gets indexed directly---i use some other strategy to get them indexed--

I was thinking to open a new thread but then I saw you guys discussing the issue I have recently encounter.

2 weeks ago I have taken over start or better to say start managing previously claimed GMB (GMB was claimed by its original owner circa 4 years ago but the profile wasn't optimized, used or updated since then). To cut a long story short, I did my best and follow the instructions on this site and YT on how to set up GMB for a proper ranking. I finished my project 2 weeks ago with the main goal to be 1st for several construction business related services + location. I have listed all services company offers, add services descriptions, have received reviews (genuine) from actual clients & give comments, add pictures, COVID-19 updates, opening hours, company description, website, Q&A,... I mean I have complete this GMB listing as it should be but in front of me is still a company without reviews, optimized for KW, company description and have no backlinks even their profile is not claimed. In addition to that there is also another company (for different KW) in front of me but they have partially developed GMB.

I did a brief research and came to the conclusion that KW in the company's name might play an important role with the GMB ranking, or at least in the beginning. Maybe I am wrong but this are just my observations what I saw

In general we see companies with names like (Business name + corp. structure) i.e. Jhonny Ltd. or (Business name + industry + corp. structure) i.e. Hendrikssen Construction Services Corp. but in my case where unclaimed business is ranking before me is (KW, KW, KW and KW + Corp. structure) i.e. Plumbing, HVAC Services, Consulting and International Trade Ltd. (I know very strange and long business name without proper business name or brand but that's it - they have their compan officially registered under this name) and this company is in front of my where my company business name is (Business name + corp. structure) i.e. Atomex LLC and just for the sake of argument let's say we are trying to rank for Plumbing. The last example where I see similar pattern is a company with claimed but not fully optimized GMB. Also in this case they are in front of me with their business name structure similar to (Business name + industry + corp. structure) i.e. Brus HVAC Inc. while I have my company Atomex LLC on the second place and we try to outrank them for HVAC.

I'll appreciate any comments which will help me to confirm or reject my thesis...

Can you give me some examples so I can see in RL? I have seen something similar on my own as well.
