Hi there,

as a side project i want freelancing - doing seo and search ads for local offline businesses ( accountants, construction companies etc. ).

Till now, i just create websites for them, and want add :

  • local seo ( onpage optimisation, backlinks etc. )
  • google my business ( rank to 3 pack or 1st position )
  • search ads

Im struggling how to set proper pricing for these services.

The competition here is very low, and 80% of the businesses owners dont know shit about how seo or ppc works.

My current idea :

I will ask instant fee for basic setup ( onpage optimisation, creating campaigns for google ads ), and then monthly fee for backlinks, report...

Problems that i think of

  • clients wont pay instant fee / monthly fee until the see results
  • clients will see the results after few weeks / months, and stop paying monthly fee

Any ideas how to handle this?

Thanks

I'd start with hourly rating (use time doctor or clockify) with a minimum number of hours per month, BUT adding a total budget.

For example, you can describe a whole 6 months plan for a company that'd cost 6000 (1k/mo).

Sure, you may not getting results in the first month, but you are not only freeing the client from the uncertainty of hourly rate, but also setting them up for a mid term mindset.

One thing to say here is that if for any reason you fk up or are not getting anything by month 3, ALWAYS overdeliver and achieve results through Adwords, social media, whoever you need to do it.

Client satisfaction > getting "rich"

Thank u so much for nice idea, when i check other agencies / freelancers in my area, they usually go for hourly rate as well.

I see in some categories that business websites is in first position only thanks to 1-2 links from high authority news website, that sell PR articles. Backlink cost 200$ for example. My idea is - i will charge client for hourly rate, but will add these 200$ to final price.

You add price for client, if you buy backlink that u need to Pay someone for, or not?

That depends on how you run the deal.

Usually backlinking would be added to part of the campaign.

For example, focus on the fourth month on backlinking.

If you were to add a link from someone else, at 200$, I'd just discuss it with the client.

If HE thinks it's worth it after your explanation, then go for it.

either monthly or hourly basis you can set your price. Well, you can set price according to your particular services, like if you provide "Google Page Speed Optimization" services then you can seo 200-300 euro for homepage and so on...

Ummm

You are building websites for them now?

BUT

You don't do any on page optimisation to start with when building the site? Because that is a service you want to offer / extend into?

i build websites just for people that know me, or recommend me. I struggle to find clients for websites - and if i found them, process took 2-3 months, because they usually respon after weeks. Thats why i want focus on seo and ppc, and creating websites will be just extend service.

I do this for sites I build as well. I'm not going to generate a poorly optimized website for them, but if they want something that is highly focused towards SEO then it is something extra I offer at build time, or sell as an extra service (that is usually bundled with website speed optimizations) down the road. I find it works well for me and the clients I work with because instead of overwhelming them with a new website AND SEO at the same time, our focus is getting the clients a killer website which builds their trust in my work, then we can focus towards on page SEO. In the end, I get paid more for doing the work as a separate project instead of bundling it at build time, and I have the client focused on SEO optimizations. I haven't ventured down the link building path yet because my SEO knowledge in that area is honestly limited! It is something I need to venture down for the sake of my clients though.
