Advice on SEO for companies.

Hi guys! First of all, be clear in the fact that I'm a newbie. Right now doing a couple of websites for a company and they want me to help in the SEO strategy. Of course they're not awaiting results from me but I feel this as a great opportunity to learn.

Saying that I'm looking for help in how to achieve a successful campaign, what kind of things should i have in mind and overall tips and tricks that you got from your own experience.

Probably I shouldn't ask this here since is White hat but should I do backlinks for them?
What kind of things you usually look in Ahrefs from competitors and how do you use that information to be better than them?

P.S: Yes, I have an own Idea of what to do, but as I said I'm a newbie and think that ask in the forum could be a great source of information since you guys probably have much more experience doing this.

You have to pick the top 5 or 10 competitors of your client. You have to check your competitor's backlinks and the quality of their content, social media profiles if they have.

This is honestly great advice! Yup, It's basically what I'm currently doing with Ahrefs but when you do things the first time it's always complicated to know if you're on the right path. Glad to see that I'm not too far from the normal people, I'll take a look at those guides and create a roadmap for the company. Thank you so much!

Are you only helping with SEO or is content also part of your job? If it is (and perhaps even if it isn’t), I would advise you to pay special attention to the content on your client’s competitors’ websites. Most people underestimate just how much you can learn from diligent reading.
Keywords are there, of course, but you can also get a sense of what sort of voice your client’s competitors are using in their content. In all likelihood, that will be the kind of voice that you will want to mimic. A professional tone, a friendly one, or something else entirely, it all matters.
The length of the copy is also an important variable. For instance, if your client is gunning for a younger niche, chances are that you will want shorter content. Younger people tend to move on if they see a block of text. If it is a hyper-specialized niche, then you will want to go more in-depth and may even have to go diving for some obscure keywords.
In short, your competitors’ content is one giant black box that you don’t want to neglect.

Outsource to an agency who are great at SEO.
If you want to learn and experiment, then build out a few sites of your own and practice on those.

Check ahrefs for the competitors backlinks and make a strategy based on that. Ahrefs won't show you PBNs if they are blocking the crawlers. Ofcourse not everyone is using PBN but that might be the case. Another way, you can always resell.

Look for an authentic provider for SEO services at a low price and resell it to your client.

Make sure the provider you choose has a proven track record as you don't wanna lose your clients right? Take it slow. Do your research and build a funnel on how you will progress on this. Good luck!

Thank you! That's an amazing advice. Do you thing that google understand the voice that you use in content? Or it's more a thing of user retention? (That also helps of course).

They're not really worried about SEO because they have a different strategy, It's more that my boss mention in a meeting and told them that I have some knowledge. That's why I don't mind about results, but it's important to me because I can learn from this experience, if works great! if not doesn't matter. I do SEO, I do not build out websites. If one of our SEO clients came to me and asked me to build a site, I'd outsource it to a web builder who we have personally owrked with, who we trust and let them do what they do best.

I do SEO, I do not build out websites. If one of our SEO clients came to me and asked me to build a site, I'd outsource it to a web builder who we have personally owrked with, who we trust and let them do what they do best.

Again it's not a client. I work for this organization and if i screw up this website they have 300 more, It doesn't matter. They're asking me to do something and learn from it, IDK why is so complicated understand that.

I’m glad that you found the advice useful. It is definitely more of a matter of user retention. As far as I know, Google doesn’t currently employ voice recognition (well, that kind of voice recognition) when it comes to ranking and relevance. Or at least not in any meaningful way.
If anyone here knows more about the issue, they are free to correct me on it, of course.
