I have realised as most probably come to realise if you want to succeed in anything when it comes to making money online SEO is everything.

What does it matter if your content or videos are the best out there if you don't have the ability to have it picked up by search engines?

so from somebody like me, that have about 0 idea how it works, to begin with how do I get started in learning about it? SEO is such a big topic from what I have seen, it's keyword optimization, copywriting, backlinking(what is this?) and probably 10 other niches I haven't even touched.

Is there any guide/course/certification out there you would point a complete beginner towards that can help him improve and actually understand what he should be doing?

-Thank you all for reading :)

Moz academy has a pretty good free tutorial on right now about the basics of SEO

I'd check out one or two general tutorials to familiarize yourself with various aspects of SEO, but eventually I'd pick 2-3 particular tools (link building, onsite optimization, etc) and try to master them. SEO can be so broad, so it's difficult to stay focused especially when it's take weeks or months to start seeing results of your hard work.

Watch some Youtube tutorials and spend time on BHW learning from other IM'ers.

Typically I'd say it's good to start by doing, but with SEO you need to be persistent to see some results.
I'd start with keyword research - these are plenty of subjects here, plenty of YT videos, plenty of blogs.

Then start with OnPage SEO - learn by watching YT videos and reading blogs (Moz, Backlinko, etc).

Then move to OffPage SEO and see how it can improve your rankings.

Keep in mind, that case studies can show you what is really working, but try to look only for recent ones.

Also take a look at some statistic based articles, it is really helpful to look from a bigger perspective to understand what Google is doing & what is really working.

Read, listen to some podcasts etc, download some courses but be prepared for a long journey.

I did look in the newbie section but i don't believe i found anything related to SEO.

But i might have just not been paying good enough attention.

I am well aware that this is not going to be a "you will succeed and make the big bucks in a day!" thing. but from my research so far knowing SEO even if it's just the basic stuff, will help you not only with your own personal stuff such as blogs or niche websites. but also if you want to go the freelance route, it seems like SEO and copywriting (to just name 2 things) are in really high demand online.

and again thanks to everybody! i really appreciate the feedback/input.

Start with the basics and heavily focus on a specific area of SEO and learn as much as possible from it. SEO it´s a giant beast and if you want to try and eat it all at once it will eat you first.

Instead, focus on breaking down SEO into areas and make sure to dive into each of them separately.

Areas like...
  • Technical SEO
  • On-Page SEO
  • Keyword Research
  • Backlink Profile Analysis
  • Competitors Analysis
  • Linkbuilding
There are plenty of resources available here on BHW. Make sure to ABUSE the advanced search feature and search for those topics individually.

There are also many courses available for free on Udemy and even paid ones that have free coupons. Make sure to check the Giveaway forum for them.

YouTube is filled with tutorials as well in many of those areas. Here´s a list of my favorite SEO YouTube channels and blogs I follow...

BLOGS
smartinsights
ahrefs
backlinko
hubspot
moz
neil patel
search engine journal

YOUTUBE
Nathan Gotch
Google Analytics
Ahrefs
Income School
Brian Dean (Same guy from backlinko)

I hope this helps,

Cheers!

thank you again to all i really appreciate it!

special thanks to @Roger Marquez for going above and beyond +1

You might also want to look up Youtube vids on SEO from Brian Dean, Neil Patel, and others. There are even quick start checklists you can go with.

Focus on keyword and competition research first.

Learn through experience would be the best way to go about it.

Get a website, start getting your feet wet, follow youtube videos, and do a lot of research and reading into what you are trying to do.

Most people don't even start, they just keep doing research and never actually begin.

By at least getting a website (low cost these days) you can at least take your first step which would put you ahead of people who have been researching for years and haven't done anything yet.

This forum offers all the information you need. The problem is that there is just too much information to study, you won't know what to read up about until you start doing. Get yourself a couple of domains and start working on them, then you will know the relevant questions to ask and methods to learn about step by step.

It's going to take a lot of time but I think this is the way.

You can go to search for BHW beginner guide. Its very useful to start and enter them.
