What Do You Guys Use For Anti-Virus/Malware Software?

guys - have you noticed that with all the windows update over the last few months, windows 10 own anti virus program is eating too much resources? it was not like this before? i have ran other antivirus and malware applications on my laptop, and nothing bad is found.

@MisterF - you noticed anything like this on your end?

Not that I can say, but my machine does seem to bring to an almost stop sometimes ( although I usually attribute this to all the tabs and windows open )

I know Windows and Dell updates always seem to kick in when I/m busy in the middle of something.

jump to avast for few days and stop using windows AV, see if you still notice the issue. i have stopped windows AV, and no longer seeing the resource issue. others have commented this in other forums.

It made my gaming laptop a lot faster and I could run almost any amount of tabs open and even games at the same time. With the Windows Firewall it always made my laptop slower, scanning in random times. So I had to disable it, very happy I did.

I'm very careful in what sites I browse, so I try to avoid new sites or unknown URLs.

I usually turn Windows Defender on, just to run a scan, along with Malwarebytes. It does the job.

On my main rig I'm just using Windows Defender and I do a Malwarebytes free scan from time to time. If you want to pay for an AV Malwarebytes Premium is the way to go, but like others have said, unless you're opening things you shouldn't be, it isn't necessary.

Oh don't forget a good adblocker for your browsers as well. Those stop a lot of nasties.

If all you do on the computer is work stuff, you might want to consider if Windows is even the right OS for you. I've just installed Linux Mint on a new cheap laptop because it was running poorly on Windows (shitty AMD processor) and so far Linux Mint is running WAY smoother than windows 10 was. The only thing that I use that doesn't run natively on Linux is Photoshop, there are alternatives and it can be run on a virtual machine / duel boot.

The reason I'm giving Linux a try is because I've not been pleased with the direction Windows has been going in for some time now. I'm noticing more and more that Windows is telling me what to do in regards to updates and privacy rather than the other way around. Linux is more how operating systems used to be, which is nice. The only reason I'm still on Windows on my main PC is because of my gaming addiction ;)

Are you using any anti virus protection for Linux

I am using mac from the day 1. But yes for windows I would say don't go for any sort of antivirus n all. Read some basic security essentials tips on internet you will be fine enough to go with it

I dont have any antivirus installed tbh, last time i installed antivirus it was like 7 years ago.

Thats ok. I'm a female. My username doesn't indicate gender. I'm always looking for deals. Malwarebites wanted $38 dollars for a year on a window that popped up to renew on my computer.
