Website Disappeared from SERP After Google May Update

I'd continue to wait another week and see where everything stands before thinking about any major changes.
When was the last time you updated the content for the article? Perhaps you could tweak it a little, freshen it up and what-not.

The May update started around the 4th, and was then completely rolled out on the 18th but my own experience and from what I've read from many other people here, it looks more like there was a tweak to the update on the 18th since SERPs have been dancing around like crazy again - it's best to treat 18th as another update and wait 2 weeks for things to settle down, whatever your standard procedure is when Google releases an update. If your website started going down on the 4th, it's possible you might start seeing a recovery with this tweak.

I just checked my analytics and noticed that my traffic went down on May 5-6. I lost my primary keyword during the two days. And the traffic's been steady (still down) after that. Looks like it just affected only one keyword.
I changed a few headings yesterday. Now I think I'll add a few more paras to the content (make it more in-depth).
The thing that's bugging me is the sites that are ranking are not even related to the keyword. They are just news sites with random articles ranking for the keyword. Even social media hashtag pages are ranking on the first page. Maybe Google pushed sites with better backlink profile and high rate of content updation.
I'll update the content and wait for a week as most members are recommending that.

Hey sir. This exactly happened to me past few weeks. I'm also still ranking for the other keywords and lost my primary keyword. From rank #8 to 100+ . Just like you, my articles and photo's are used. This specific domain is sending me a lot of backlinks. Around 50 now.

I'm not sure if the site is sending you any backlinks, but you could try and disavow them. I'm experimenting with that now.

Yes, update the content with that keyword intent and analyze the link profile of those ranking sites. Wait for a few days to see improvement.

A site literally downloaded my featured image, removed my sites name, and used it as it is. This feels bad.

I don't think relevancy has had an effect on my site because the other sites that are ranking are completely irrelevant.
It's like the keyword is "Google" and the ranking sites have content related to some news of a random area.

I had a thought about the over Optimization but the site was ranking for a whole year. But, just to be sure, I removed some of the occurences of the keyword in the content yesterday and hit the sweet green spot in Yoast.

A site literally downloaded my featured image, removed my sites name, and used it as it is. This feels bad.

If it's your image and you can prove you have ownership of it, why not send the site a DMCA for that image/post for infringement/copyright issues?

I used logo related to the topic, added some text and design and used it as my featured image. I had my site's name in the image so that these things don't happen. But that guy removed my site's name and used the image.

I have the same problem. I lost crazy rankings for my main Kw but the longtails are ok.

I'm losing 1000 keywords every day. I was ranking for the longtail kws, but now I'm losing them as well. Funny how I was #1 for a year and now google thinks my content is shit.

The same thing happened to my two websites one in the tech blog was doing great for more than two years the traffic went from 200 unique visitors daily to 10 a day, the other is an Amazon affiliates was generating me good money every month now 90% of the income is gone. My primary keywords were lost on the 6th of May. Since then, I've been losing kwds everyday
If this keeps happening, I'll be left with no kws.
