So this Wizyakuza guy has been making art of famous anime and comic characters for years and has been selling it via Shopify. How is this possible?
And why is Shopify allowing this?
It's interesting that he doesn't mention any of the real names on the site but on social media he promotes it with the original name(eg Goku/Dragon Ball Z, Batman, Naruto)

Isn't this illegal? I'm sure he must've been contacted by lawyers of Disney and Anime owners...

Is he just ignoring them cause he doesn't care cause he lives in the Philippines? But then why is Shopify not doing anything against it?

Are you sure it is illegal?

He is drawing them after all! If I draw a famous actor and I sell shirt with the draw, nothing will happen

Yes, you are not allowed to sell stuff based on copyrighted material.

Copyright laws can be weird sometimes depending on the country, maybe he can get away with it as parodies? Maybe owners just don't care/know.

you have the answer, he is hiding it thats all

I have seen channels on youtube selling anime merch of naruto and DBS and other anime. Huge channels which have been around for years.
Yeah im pretty sure its legal

Isn't Disney well known for immediatly striking down copyright infringments?
His designs are all over social media so the owners should definitely know about it.

Ok but selling Star Wars, Marvel and DC stuff... How can he get away with that?

Aliexpress and DHGate are Chinese websites... Shopify is a Canadian/American website

Animes copyrights are way easier than movies and series. What is the reason? I don't know!

I sent him an email and DM 2 years ago... He didn't answer. He's quite famous for his artwork. And probably makes millions of dollars every year
Looking at one of his videos, I do not think he is making millions but yeah good money for sure.

Officially what he is doing is illegal unless he has permission or has a deal with the owners of the copyright. Then again, there are millions of copyrighted things on the internet, it would cost copyright owners billions to pursue all of them.

well in my country people to that all the time, the even open pshycal store and sell it in public.
i quess it's because of where he is based off.

Ok guys I know how easy it is to sell copyrighted stuff... My question is why is SHOPIFY, a North American ecommerce giant allowing this to happen, his site has been around for 3+ years and he has had mutliple viral posts on multiple social media platforms.

The people who sell copyrighted material in physical stores are already poor and have nothing to lose so sueing them makes no sense, they also don't make millions. This guy gets 1000 store visitors every day and probably earns at least 1000 dollars pure profit every day.

I assume Shopify won't do anything if the owner doesn't complain. Unless the guy is copying 1:1 stuff from those characters, (I understand he is selling his own work based off copyrighted characters, not 100% exactly copied stuff) they most likely would have to take the case to Court. Too much hassle.

I am really happy he's doing great!
Copyright on fanarts/illustrations should not exist.

@yakuzacartel no one has reported him to Shopify... yet... I’m sure if he got reported enough he could be taken down.
Same goes with Disney and copyright.

Not to mention that this is also free exposure for those companies. Thats why they dont take legal actions. May be one of th reasons
