This Google Update is by far the weirdest ever.

I love this forum to bits, but come on guys, it's a blackhat SEO forum.

You can't dabble in the dark arts then get upset when your site doesn't have longevity.

I don't do any BH SEO, I create great content that serves a purpose and helps the reader, and my rankings are absolutely fine. Some have increased significantly.

I don't say that to brag, just to illustrate my point.

It's not 2011 anymore. You actually need to provide value. Shitty affiliate ridden articles just won't cut it anymore.

I'm sure a few people will argue, saying "my site is completely Whitehat. I only have a few WEB 2.0's, some blog comments and a dozen PBN links" :D
How do you know that they are not white hat?

How do you know that they are not white hat?

They very well could be. I'm not disputing that an update can disrupt whitehat sites.

But the majority of sites people build here are garbage affiliate sites, designed purely to extract as much money as possible out of an audience.

There's just this underlying idea that Google and Amazon, for that matter, are out to get them and are purposefully trying to ruin their lives.

google punished the websites who didn't use google ads/

not seeing too much changes in ranking just fluctuation are there on some keywords

google punished the websites who didn't use google ads/

so nothing new or unexpected :) this is how it's been looking like for years...the goal of each of these so called "updates" = force people to use adwords/ads

On my niche there are a lot of good sites with good content but google still ranking on page one only one autorithy website and the rest is spam sites with no content. I see a website ranked #5 and it is a redirect to a cpaoffer..wtf is this

-95% here.
From 1500 unique visitors per day to 60.
All my other sites have been tanked.
Each site with different strategies, some black, some grey, some withe hat.
ALL sites have been tanked.
To be honest I am torn.
The google sock puppets always repeat the same shit and NEVER NEVER explain what they have change and how SEO specialists have to opereate with the """"""""""new"""""""""" update.
I copy and paste a great comment I've found on line:

Google really IS evil

Google has earned this tagline over the last 5 years, but especially now.

I've been watching the forums for years but feel now is the time to have a say myself.

We are in a unprecedented worldwide crisis

- People dying in mass numbers
- Businesses collapsing
- Millions of Job Losses

So for google to do an "update" at this time is ruthless to say the least.

As a businessman, I have 100s of sites, due to the number of businesses we have worldwide.

Our sites are in line with all "recommendations" and we gain new backlinks whilst checking toxicity etc etc all the time.

Most of our sites have been on page 1 for a number of years, until recently!! Googles updates for the last few years have destroyed traffic and rankings, for NO reason

Example

One of our sites was in No1 position for numerous keywords, for 12 years, then came the medic update, we were destroyed overnight and have not recovered for that site since, no matter what work we put into it.

We do operate within Google guidelines, at ALL times, for all our sites.

Our seo teams have a mixture of all expertise, and include some ex Google workers.

Having a discussion with them recently, I think rankings and traffic is OUT of peoples hands now, and there is not much you can do or work on to get back to how things were.

Even our ex Google employees, who work on our seo, now state there is not much else that can be done to help in a big way, and that they do not recognize googles tactics anymore.

There are a number of theories, including conspiracies lol

"Why do an update now, when businesses are suffering dramatically, with the pandemic ?"

A few CONSPIRACY ideas are

- doing an update like this with obvious destroying results so far, was done because they thought the pandemic would cover up the nature of what they are up to, behind the scenes with the updates ultimate goal (making more money for Google)

- because of the uncertainty with businesses regarding the pandemic, businesses have had to either cut back majorly on Google ads spending OR even cancel campaigns altogether. Hence Google is hemorrhaging money because of the affect of the pandemic on ads spending.

Shareholders will not be happy, so what do they do ...... do an update like this which is destroying a lot of businesses (small to medium as always) worldwide, in which businesses will be panicked into spending more on Google ads or even start their campaigns back up.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT ISNT IT

Anyway you look at it, a "normal decent " company would NOT do something to make businesses/peoples lives more traumatic on top of a worldwide crisis

BUT Google has just done that. "True colours" and "we can do what we want", springs to mind.

It would be interesting if there was an Independent group who thoroughly researched Google, and the effects their updates etc on businesses and jobs have been doing over the last few years.

I really think the results would be startling, as 10,000s of online businesses etc were forced to close, and I suspect maybe 100,000s? of jobs have gone worldwide, due to sites losing all their traffic and customers through no fault of their own.

Imagine what the mainstream news would be reporting worldwide. There would be no hiding place for Google and what they have done. But what are the chances of the enquiry happening, very slim.

It's a pity there was not an official petition asking for Google to be investigated based on what they are up to, their under the table money making ways, and also the impact on worldwide businesses.

Dont you think its strange also, that recently Google Owners have stepped back and put in a ceo to "run things" just before they started doing updates with detrimental consequences for small businesses. I think we can all say it's a case of putting a fall guy in charge so they are not in the firing line for what is going on.

Ive read these forums for years, and for many years businesses were treated fairly by Google, as reflected in forums. But in the 2 to 3 years you can see the extent of googles greedy plans by the change in tone of business owners, bloggers, seo comments, leaving comments.

Bill Lambert, warned on here that "you aint seen nothing yet, wait for what will happen in 2020", but he was shot down everytime he posted something, which was right. No wonder he isn't bothering no more.

Years ago google was a good company, but greed and shareholders have recently changed that.

Google WAS for the people and small businesses BUT are NOW for the Shareholders ONLY

We just need to keep and eye on things and see what else will be coming our way with google in 2020.

Keep fighting for the good and keep safe

Fuck!

unproven, well put $10 and try google adds, and check will the rank return

@fc-dh (I can't quote you for some reason)

4 Years on BHW

The fact that the marketplace is packed full of shitty affiliate sites for sale, with thousands of comments and verified sales.

10 years experience in this game. I have analyzed hundreds of thousands of SERPS.

Just Google any keyword and you will find shit sites ranking on the back end of PBN links. It's not hard to find the evidence.

I don't know about this. You could be right. However, in previous updates I have seen some really good sites fall down into the abyss. These updates are not only affecting crappy affiliate sites negatively.

There's just this underlying idea that Google and Amazon, for that matter, are out to get them and are purposefully trying to ruin their lives.
This is an interesting thought and I fully agree with you. I think a lot of affiliates/marketers get tunnel vision and only see themselves and their own hard work and forget that Amazon and Google are companies driven for profit. They have no personal agenda (I would hope) for the small website owner, nor do they have any obligations. They do what they must to make as much doe as possible.

I understand why people get angry, but no idea why so many think it's a personal attack on them. :D

Fuck!
That sucks man.

Did all of them use the same Google Analytics or Google webmaster account?

How many sites are we talking about and are they in different niches?

haha, yeah, that's my point exactly. I wasn't trying to offend anyone by my comments, I was just outlying the fact that we are always going to be at the mercy of these huge companies who are in business for profit, not to feed us.

Play around with blackhat tactics and your chances of being hurt by an update increase substantially. You can still be hit as a WH site. But even then, what exactly is a whitehat site? People have different definitions.

This industry is a rollercoaster ride. It helps to develop your mind to deal with times like this, just as much as it does developing your websites.

I don't use google analytics on any site.
It is dangerous.
We're talking about 10 sites, all different niches, all different strategies, all different registrars, all different whois, all different hosting.
I am torn about this situation cause IT IS IMPOSSIBLE understand or find a pattern that explain the destrucion.
And now? Sock puppets have explain HOW to improve if you've been penalized??? They explain which NEW factors consider from May, 4th?
NO!!!
These sock puppets paid 6 figures per year are only able to say: "We release update every week". "There is nothing you can do/change/study/optimize if your site has been tanked".
There is not a single business/company out there that operate as google does and is able to freely destroy businesses (and families) overnight without a fucking explanation.

Well, Google will soon be out of the picture in terms of organic traffic. I think they'll continue to shuffle around SERPs for the following reasons;
- The sites getting a lot of organic traffic will have the funds to invest in Google ads
- The sites at the top usually spent quite a large sum to be there, they want that $ in Google ads instead

Furthermore, they'll continue to do changes in order to get more advertising dollars, like the recent change to promote YouTube videos at the top. This is obviously because they make double the ad revenue if a user is exposed to 2 if not even 3 of their ads. Worthy to add to this is that they already added MULTIPLE ads at the beginning of all YouTube video, yet I haven't seen a single content creator say they have seen a gain after this update. This means they add an extra ad in there where they can take 100% of the earnings instead of having to give a % to the content creator.

This doesn't look good guys!

Except Google is not "freely destroying businesses and families", you as a business owner is using their FREE service. If that then destroys your business, tough luck. But you're still relying on their platform for all of your clientele, and that's not Google's fault.

Agree.
Unfortunately, for my businesses / customers I NEED traffic from search engines, I can not use any other sources like socials / paid traffic.
Business model requires traffic from that source.
I am not crying, I am only disappointed cause I WILL NEVER KNOW where is my error (if exists), what google likes after the update, how to recover, how to play this game.
Obscurantism, unspoken things, and communications designed to confuse or mislead reality is repulsive.
I completely agree with this statement:
"Having a discussion with them (ex googlers) recently, I think rankings and traffic is OUT of peoples hands now, and there is not much you can do or work on to get back to how things were."
