Can we get dead Instagram usernames?

When Instagram started functioning, all the best usernames were registered. And many of them from that day are not used till this day. I was always wondering this and never knew the answer! If a page is very old and not active for more than 5 years. Can we report that account from 20 other accounts and shut it off and after 60-90 days try to re-register them? But what happens next, will it be free to use or it'll will stay as page was banned or suspended or not available!?
I've also read that if you report an account that is not spam or illegal, you may get a ban.
I've seen some people in another website selling services for OG usernames with 2 letters and 4 letters. And I was just thinking how they got them now! (but who knows maybe they registered way before)
If someone has experienced this or have knowledge about this, please share.

Only thing I know is that some of those usernames used to be jacked through SIM swap, but that's not a viable option no more afaik.
So most of those accounts are either bought from other people or "hacked" with other methods.

No idea bout claiming an inactive @ tho.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't any way to acquire these accounts. Instagram reportedly deletes accounts that have been inactive for X number of years, but their criteria and time period for dead accounts is unknown. Some say 1-2 years.

If an account hasn't posted in 5 years, that doesn't mean it is dead, as long as the user keeps logging in at the very least and liking other things, Instagram sees them as an active user.

Alternatively, you could try find out the personal information of the account owner and spin up an obituary on a "fake news" website then report them to Instagram as being deceased (this is a joke, of course, as doing that would be fraud and I imagine it wouldn't work)

Yes I wasn't saying that just for not posting the user is dead. But I was saying for not logging in for more than 5 years. And I found many accounts like that but it doesn't seem that IG deletes them as you say. Because they're still alive eventhough they're dead for more than 5 years.
