Hi all
This is a method that I haven't personally used but plan to use in the future when I have gotten better at editing videos.

Offering video editing on upwork or fiverr has become competitive hence why I don't want to even bother trying when this method is easier for the gaming niche.

Also, if you are lucky you can find yourself a long time recurring revenue, instead of struggling to find clients who only want one or a few videos done by you.

this is a method about partnering up with Twitch.tv creators who are fairly new and haven't expanded to Youtube yet because they want to focus on their stream or don't know how to grow on YouTube properly.

You can either only edit their videos or run their whole channel (I would recommend running their channel but we will get into that)

Required for this method
  • Basic editing skills (the more the better of course) I recommend using DaVinci resolve (free) or adobe premiere and after effects (expensive and requires a great PC to run properly
  • Lots of time
  • Communication
  • Understanding of the language and preferably the video game/niche the twitch creator is in
If you decide to manage and edit you will also need
  • Basic thumbnail creation using gimp (free) or photoshop (paid)
  • Basic understanding of tags and the algorithm and stuff (free courses on BHW)
  • Decent internet to upload the videos
  • Adsense account to monetize
So, how to find Twitch streamers to pitch services

Step 1: The niche
Choose a video game you are interested in or at least know something about/have played before
The more you know about the game the better and funnier you can edit the video!
Don't start editing for a Wold of Warcraft streamer if you have never played WoW
I personally have played League of Legends for a long time so I know how the characters work and what is the difference between a good and a bad play

Step 2: Search for streamers that don't have a YouTube/inactive Youtube
Go to the twitch games sections and choose the game/niche you chose
Look for streamers that meet these requirements (rule of thumb you can set your own requirements

  • Between 100 and 1000 active viewers at a time and a decent amount of followers. If they have subscribers (paying members, even better)
This requirement is basically selecting the streamers that are fairly popular on the platform but not up there with the big dogs (who all have editors and a popping YT channel of course)
I wouldn't recommend working for a creator with less than 100 viewers because it could take a long time before you get their YT channel monetized and profit from it.

  • Serious streaming (decent equipment, consistent streaming, vod length,....)
This is basically to see if they are serious and committed to streaming and making money or they are just hobby streamers without a schedule. You don't want to work for free for non-committed people hoping that they

Equipment: see if they are investing into themselves

Consistent streaming: Do they have a schedule? If so, great! If not, check their vods (previous streams) to see how often they stream and if there is some consistency. If they are inconsistent then don't even bother. Unless they are making a lot money already and somehow don't have YT (very unlikely

Vod length: check their past streams to see how long they stream for. 4 to 16 hours per stream is perfect. Any less is kinda meh. Under 1 hour is a no go!

Bonuses that committed streamers have
  • emotes
  • good viewer interaction
  • Good logo and overlay (screen during games)
  • How social and talkative they are
  • How active viewers are
  • How grateful they are for subs and donations
  • ....
You get the point. Look for a beginning streamer that you think has a chance to grow and you can help them with that :)

Gather a list of streamers in your niche a google sheet or excel and write down if they have a YT channel or not, if is active or not.

Make sure to use the socialblade chrome extension to check their stats and views et cetera.
You preferably want to reach out to a streamer that is growing or staying the same.

If he is dropping views and subs then you should be careful. Maybe they were in some kind of controversy or something else.
Maybe they just got less relevant/less good at the game.

Anyway, If views are on the decline I suggest you stay away unless their content is awesome!

Step 3: Pitching your services

After you have thoroughly checked the streamer for good content and growth you can reach out to them on Twitch itself but I would highly recommend contacting them on their social media or business e-mail if they have one. That way it seems more professional.

Send them a personal message like this

Hi there

My name is []
I was watching your stream the other day and I must say I really enjoyed them. You are really good at the game and the quality of your streams is great. I wanted to go to your Youtube channel to see more content of you but you apparently don't have a channel yet. Is that because you want to focus only?
Anyway, I love editing and producing YouTube videos and I was wondering if you wanted to partner up with me. I can create a channel for you and edit your content for free. When the channel gets monetized (4000 watch hours and 1000 subs) I can place ads and get revenue from it.
I will build your entire YouTube channel for you without you having to do anything for it.
I would prefer to get most if not all of the revenue of the channel because I would invest a lot of time and effort into it. You would get the benefit of increased social presence: people who discover your Stream trough one of my videos
Every once in a while a video can explode in views organically and bring in a lot of traffic to your stream.
If you would prefer sharing the revenue or paying me a monthly salary, that is discussable of course

Below are some of my previously edited videos, let me know if you like the style of content.
I will edit the video, add tags, create a thumbnail and upload to the channel for you.

Let me know if you have any questions
I'm excited to hear back from you and I wish you good luck for your streaming career

Your name

If you want to chat a bit with them about twitch or the game to get to know them before sending cold messages than you definitely can. If they recognize you as a viewer of them you will have a higher chance of getting accepted.

Step 4 creating the videos and managing the channel
Create their youtube channel for them and start uploading videos (highlights of their stream)

You can share the login to the YT with them if you want but I would keep it yours if they are okay with that. That way they can't just randomly fire you or not pay. You are in the driver seat because you get the YT money :D

To create the videos, download their VODS (previous streams) and edit the highlights out of it

With highlights I mean
  • Crazy plays and kills
  • Funny things they say
  • Epic fails and stupid plays
  • Rage moments
  • ....
Also, use clips (created by the viewers) to make your life easier
Clips are short 20 to 30 seconds of their stream that are highlights according to viewers.
That way you can easily find highlights without having to go through all the raw footage.

Try to create 10 minute videos at least with highlights and just regular gameplay.
Definitely look at other channels that are creating similar content for other streamers.

Try to keep a regular upload schedule and make the video's as entertaining and quality as possible to keep the streamer happy and maintain a good relationship and communication.

I was planning to find a list of streamers who qualify but I am too lazy right now and I don't want to spoonfeed you too much. Go out there and start reaching out, I am sure you will find a client

Look at yassuo (league streamer on twitch) who grew immensely on the platform the last couple of years and his editor Pinoy who invested all his time in creating Content for Yassuo to help him grow his social presence. After 3 years they are both making tens of thousands a month each.
Yassuo gets twitch revenue and Pinoy the ad revenue from the YT channel.

Yes you are taking a risk by putting faith in someone else and not getting anything in return in the short term but think about the long run.

Anyway, I hope this may have given some of you some ideas or helped you find a client if you are struggling

You can try and edit for multiple people at the same time or ask for a monthly salary.

If they have a monetized inactive YT channel then you have just struck a gold mine my friend.

If you can't find anyone on twitch for your preferred game, then take a look at mixer and Facebook streamers. Less popular than twitch but there still are a lot of streamers on those platforms.

Cheers

Seems like you stole me opened my mind and stole my idea :)
Great share sir
Damn, I'm sorry :D
Luckily, there are enough fish in the sea when It comes to streamers who don't want to put in the effort to edit and product their own videos

Nice method, I guess you can work with several channels at once too. All the best

Yes indeed, and then ditch the ones that aren't working and give them the channels.
If you can manage the workload then working with multiple streamers can be beneficial

Today you can earn a lot by editing videos! Nice method! I love it...

Yes!
And if you are the manager and get the full revenue you are profiting of their streaming work and the content they produce

how this method hit in your mind ??? this is the best solid guides here in the BHW
I was thinking about how I could get work as an editor and then I thought of the story of Pinoy (editor) and Yassuo (league of legends twitch streamer) and started thinking about how I could apply it.
It is hard to predict how fast and if the twitch streamer will grow but if they already have a small following, you can easily get to a monetized channel in a few weeks or months.
You should ask the streamer to promote the YouTube channel on their Twitch stream btw.

Thank you for the feedback :)

okk great man will definitely work on it

Good luck man!

Make sure to post a personal message to offer services, don't just copy-paste mine, that was just an example of things you can say.
Are you good at editing? What program do you use?

Alright, then first get your editing up to speed obviously.
You can try DaVinci resolve for free if your computer can't run premiere or if the cracked version is limited.
Davinci resolve is amazing, has so many features and is free!

Thanks man!
I don't see many threads here talking about editing content for someone else as a full time job, not as a freelancer on fiverr or upwork so I figured I would share :p
