Just a really quick tip for those who promote Amazon products and want help ranking on page 1 of Google.

I've never really bothered much with the Amazon stores preferring instead to direct the traffic to my own sites (auto blogs using WP Robot for content). However, due to my obsession with link wheels I have been adding more sites than usual in a drive to achieve keyword domination!! ;)

Like all who first sign up with Amazon, my tracking ID was a truncation of my web site and didn't form any readable words. The only other ID's I initially added were similarly obscure formats, representing the sites that the traffic had come from.

By chance I noticed that one of page 1 keyword competitors was an Amazon store but, instead of some random tracking/affiliate ID, this guy had used the specific keyword. Hence, the site appeared as follows:

Code:
http://astore.amazon.com/keyword-20

One particular amazon store with a 2 word keyword phrase, for a childs toy is today ranking at number 3, only behind the toy manufacturer who is occupying the first two spots. It has circa 30 page backlinks and the competition is just over 200k.

Surprisingly, when I logged in, I found that there were loads of good keywords available as tracking ID's which I've registered with a view to setting up more stores.

Now, you won't get keywords such as ipod and nintendo, xbox etc However, if you have long tail versions of these then you may be pleasantly surprised!

Also, you can use this for the various different Amazon sites, so I also have registered similar keywords with Amazon UK which uses -21 instead of -20.

This should help if, like me, you are looking for keyword domination with many sites and/or if you don't have any money to invest in lots of new specific product websites but want to get a presence on the net.

You still need to build your own page backlinks to the store but you will benefit from substantial numbers of Amazon domain backlinks.

Just to add that I don't make mega bucks with Amazon, massive clicks but really poor sales and remuneration. However, in the New Year I am just going to concentrate on higher priced items.

Also, like everything in this business, don't abuse the process and register tons of ID's if you have no intention of promoting/using.

Oh, and don't forget when setting up the store that you can include a link to your own site in the navigation...choose a different site/keyword to your store. I know that this is a no-follow but it depends on your outlook regarding the value and authenticity of including such links in your SEO. It may also get you some traffic if the site is related eg: keyword accessories.

Best of luck! :)

That keyword store is for selling products or is an affiliate store?

It's for selling any Amazon product.

Obviously you need an affiliate account with them first.

If your keyword was "best digital camera" then that is what you would try and select as one of your additional ID's.

I personally prefer to use hyphens so that there is word clarity eg:

best-digital-camera

topsytips, I'm with Amazon Associates, but not yet started an AStore.

Does the Amazon Store have to market products specifically related to the Tracking ID that you give it?

For example, I select widgets-21 (UK based), does it have to be about Widgets or could it have products for sale which have a similar theme?

With regards to the competition is it a keyword phrase that doesn't have much competition if you used the likes of of Market Niche Finder (Page Rank, page back links etc).

Cheers.

You can add any individual product to the a-store or you can add any products category wise irrespective of the Tracking ID.

You can select whatever products you want to be honest Muchacho, but for sales conversions I would be inclined to select products that people would expect to buy when they arrived on "widgets."

So, you might have old widgets, new widgets, vintage widgets, pink widgets etc but I wouldn't necessarily include any other products unless there is some direct correlation between the two.

The simplest way I find is to ask myself what products I would reasonably expect to find on that page.

Keyword competition is really a matter of personal choice and you will need to do your research. You also learn by experience as to what works for your own particular methods.

It's difficult to be exact to be honest. I always used to target low competition keywords (<30k comp) but have found with link wheels and article marketing etc that I have ranked well for sites up to 500k competition. Sometimes my main site drops off page 1 but, due to the volume of sites, I typically have 6 or so on pages 1/2.

Some quick tips though, any web 2.0/social bookmarking sites on the first couple of pages is usually a good sign. I get good results with Hub Pages and also my bookmarking for Digg and Mixx do really well. Ezine Articles hit page 1 for me almost instantaneously and has hovered between page 1 and 2 consistently.

What I found when promoting my own Amazon autoblogs was that I could never seem to rank higher than Amazon. However, this seems to be a way to achieve this and should technically be the Amazon site visited.

Really don't like the 24 hour Amazon cookie though which is why I believe I'm losing credit for a lot of return sales.

Many thanks for the replies.

Another few queries if you may.

I guess this may simply come down to SEO, but do you keep the title as
My Associates Store - {Keyword Phrase}

as maybe to get the clicks and trust, you need to include that it's Amazon at some point. So that when people click onto your store they assume it's just part of Amazon and will happily purchase. Now, I'd probably dive in and change it to something like:
{Keyword Phrase} - Purchase {Keyword Phrase} Here (Amazon UK Store)

Do you know of any decent Amazon Store templates, if there is such a thing? As the default one does look rather plain and not professional enough that I think would make people want to purchase.

Is there a limit to the amount of stores (Tracker IDs) you can purchase?

Also - something that I noticed. When you search for available Tracker IDs and it says the one you searched for is available; if you decide not to take it, but then search for it again a few seconds later, it doesn't seem to be available. It's as if Amazon has temporarily made it unavailable.

Thanks again, it seems a very interesting method.

Ok, just a quick reply as I have to dash out Muchacho to catch the post here...dreaded eBay items!!

I would change the title to something like:

Buy Keyword, Shop for Keyword, Cheap Keyword...or anything else that may have jumped out at you during the keyword research.

Also, have a list of categories that are also good related keywords that have been identified by yourself.

I know you can manipulate the Amazon store a little but am not sure about any templates as this is not something I've looked into. What you're aiming for is to get that cookie on their pc first, before they go direct to the site.

If you find some templates in downloads by all means post a link here.

Catch you laters...

This is a nice method indeed and it used to work pretty well but as far as i know amazon no longer allows that..

From Their TOS:
aStore by Amazon Link: You may provide a link on your site that links to a special Product detail page generated through your use of the "aStore by Amazon" tool. You may not use the aStore by Amazon Link as a stand alone website nor direct users to an aStore by Amazon Link by means other than a graphical or hypertext link on your site or by embedding the aStore by Amazon Link on your site.

topsytips are you currently using this method and if you are did you had any issues with amazon?

I think they have two templates other than the default one one is K-8 .....(something) and the other one is high school but both of them aren't much professional looking. i think the main motive is to take them to Amazon's site through our link even if our site is the most crappiest looking (better for us as the visitors will tend to move out more quickly).

limit to the amount of astores is 100.

Thanks for the tip. I am just starting with amazon as loads of people buy from them and trust them. I have been having a nightmare trying to get my amazon site up in my hosting (auto estore). I thing hostgator just dosn't like the script or something. I will try this method today as you can have loads of stores on one affiliate account. Thanks again.

Essentially, Amazon are saying that the traffic to the site should come from a graphical or text link...correct Haspel. However, I believe Amazon's intention is to avoid any blackhat activity and strictly speaking, the site url is a text link.

Just suppose you hit upon a really popular niche and loads of sites linked back to it. Google would up your rank and you would be able to do absolutely nothing about it....unless you got your site sandboxed of course!

I've had these astores for a long time without any problems. It's just that I discovered in the past few months that it would be prudent to include the keyword as an ID and hence, get it in the url.

Have you tried a WP blog and using WP-Robot (download section) to bring in the info? It's what I do although I've renamed the application throughout and "stack" my posts in advance ready to go.

Are you competing for the action-figures market?

lol, no, but it is a toy manufactured by Hasbro. It's just something I did in the run up to Christmas. Won't be putting much more effort into this campaign to be honest but it did lead me to the tip which I've shared in the OP and I have reserved some other keywords ready for the New Year.

Cheers for the tips Topsy.

Where about's in the UK are you? I'm near Manchester.
