Just a really quick tip for those who promote Amazon products and want help ranking on page 1 of Google.
I've never really bothered much with the Amazon stores preferring instead to direct the traffic to my own sites (auto blogs using WP Robot for content). However, due to my obsession with link wheels I have been adding more sites than usual in a drive to achieve keyword domination!!
Like all who first sign up with Amazon, my tracking ID was a truncation of my web site and didn't form any readable words. The only other ID's I initially added were similarly obscure formats, representing the sites that the traffic had come from.
By chance I noticed that one of page 1 keyword competitors was an Amazon store but, instead of some random tracking/affiliate ID, this guy had used the specific keyword. Hence, the site appeared as follows:
One particular amazon store with a 2 word keyword phrase, for a childs toy is today ranking at number 3, only behind the toy manufacturer who is occupying the first two spots. It has circa 30 page backlinks and the competition is just over 200k.
Surprisingly, when I logged in, I found that there were loads of good keywords available as tracking ID's which I've registered with a view to setting up more stores.
Now, you won't get keywords such as ipod and nintendo, xbox etc However, if you have long tail versions of these then you may be pleasantly surprised!
Also, you can use this for the various different Amazon sites, so I also have registered similar keywords with Amazon UK which uses -21 instead of -20.
This should help if, like me, you are looking for keyword domination with many sites and/or if you don't have any money to invest in lots of new specific product websites but want to get a presence on the net.
You still need to build your own page backlinks to the store but you will benefit from substantial numbers of Amazon domain backlinks.
Just to add that I don't make mega bucks with Amazon, massive clicks but really poor sales and remuneration. However, in the New Year I am just going to concentrate on higher priced items.
Also, like everything in this business, don't abuse the process and register tons of ID's if you have no intention of promoting/using.
Oh, and don't forget when setting up the store that you can include a link to your own site in the navigation...choose a different site/keyword to your store. I know that this is a no-follow but it depends on your outlook regarding the value and authenticity of including such links in your SEO. It may also get you some traffic if the site is related eg: keyword accessories.
