Any bikers in here?

Last fall I snagged a deal on an old bike. I always wanted something classic and the Jeep is just a pain to drive on busy dates. Here at the beach, parking is scarce.

So I bought an all-original 81 Honda Twinstar.

Just put a new battery in it and took it for a ride. Excited for the warm weather here shortly.

A T100 Bonneville would be my next bike, once my insurance drops.

My last one was a Honda 750 Shadow (still not huge but the wife, who was not yet my wife, dug it) but I've had 4 in total over the time I used to ride.

Sounds like you have never been a bike owner.

My first bike was in 1984 - a Honda 400.

My oldest brother had a bike in the 70's and he would ride that thing no matter what the weather.

Riding gives one a sense of freedom and can put you in a super relaxed state of mind unless of course you lay down your bike which can really suck.

Lol yeah, i barely can ride a bike let alone own one. When i was young i was fascinated by the motocross extreme stunts and wanted to do them with yamaha .. maybe if i make it big and own a ranch might still do it.. but probably not i have seen way too much bestgore videos to do this.

Its really interesting, i can see how one might be romantically attached to riding bikes. I have owned and used bicycles when i was a kid and i remember how relaxing and exhilirating it all was. Ahh sweet memories.

The book "The art of motorcycle maintenance" also has similar romantic sentiments/descriptions of how it feels to ride motorcycles, although the book has deeper philosophical inquiry. I have also noticed the famous indian guru Sadhguru had a huge relationship with bikes, and still does i wonder if his random awakening was somewhat connected to this

- Acceleration
- Curves

Slow and going straight all the time are not really particularly fun (to me). Neither do I like cars on 2 wheels aka Gold Wing and whatever they have these days.

I picked up a '13 Kawasaki er6f a.k.a ninja650 last year. Wanted something for commuting + a bit sporty, this one ticked all the boxes. It also was touted as being a good bike for insurance, however those criteria seemed to change literally the day before I got the bike. I'm a learner, but can drive on the roads legally - looking forward too to getting the test out of the way, and cheaper insurance.

Seriously though, anything over a 300cc is going to be crazy insurance. Like $3000+ per year, maybe closer to $5k. Let me stay accident free for a couple years and then I'll shop insurance quotes.

Motorcycle insurance is actually pretty cheap compared to car/truck insurance.

One of my brothers had a 69 Malibu and the insurance was close to 1K back in the early 70's.

He borrowed that money from me as I was the brother that always had money because I worked and did not spend.

He never paid me back and I still don't care but the actuarial tables were well past in line then and I suspect the same is how things are today.

I have an old bajaj discover.
The thing is your physical figure also matters in biking.
The more you are physically fit, the more better you can handle your bike.
You can also handle yourself upto some extent on a not plain surface and you are driving fast.
Also i cant handle bike well and drive with perfection if someone is sitting back with me. You can't make skitts.

Brakes also effect less if weight is more on bike

Wtf, is that full coverage or just liability?
When I had my cbr just liability was like €100 euro or so a year only went up after 98 up. Just checked a random one for 150 up Honda €300 a year...
Well guess Canada is just as fucked up as the us with the insurance premiums, if it's the same bs as the car insurance with measly coverage at high premiums.

There must be a big difference in price between full coverage and liability. I've always only gotten liability insurance for my bikes.
