I didn't mean that the drinking itself will kill people, but the result of believing it and then being irresponsible with other methods of a potential cure.
Thank you for trying to provide a source. But I did my own research (literally 5 minutes) and I was able to find out that Hot tea for example (which is probably the same as hot coffee and other hot beverages) has a temperature of 60-65°C (http://www.academiaobscura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/RSC-tea-guidelines.pdf) which is slightly above your stated source. BUT your source has done their research with a constant temperature. This means you have to drink constantly for 15 minutes to kill 10000 SARS coronavirus units (which isn't a whole lot) and bring the surface temperature of your inner body to the mentioned 56°C. I'm not making any statements that it might actually help the virus because it only raises the body temperature a little. I have no source for my statement so please don't straight up believe what I say.
Still, I'm NOT saying that this might NOT help. I'm just saying that it is too dangerous to put out unresearched (or not enough researched) information to the public. If it might actually help, there would be an official statement out there already. For future posts, always try to provide a source in the beginning so the reader himself can decide himself.
(By the way, I can't see anything in your original post that you said something about 80°C. And comparing it to a simple flu is insane...)
From the beginning I advised people to follow general hygiene suggestions. I told people about common sense and long used home remedy of drinking hot liquids during cold & flu season. There is also a common home remedy practice of sweating out the flu. At night before you goto sleep you drink a lot of hot tea, wrap yourself in extra clothing and boost up your body temperature by several degrees and sweat during the night. There is also widespread usage of sauna to fight flu in Scandinavia. My advice is common sense and is not harmful in any way and I've provided links that backup that scientific studies agree that heat kills or weakens flu viruses.
My OP didnt include 80C temperature (it was mentioned in my first reply) since there are different levels of hot beverage that people drink and that was my estimate. Water boils at 100C and getting it down to 60-65C tea means its not that hot. Some people drink hot beverage, regardless if its tea or coffee as hot as possible which can be shortly after boiling at 100C and lets assume 90-95C. Estimating hot beverage at 20% below its boiling temperature is reasonable in my opinion. I also just ran an experiment with running hair dryer onto cheap stick in BBQ thermometer and was able to get above 80C running it on high.
Nobody is comparing this to simple flu. SARS coronavirus was another virus that killed nearly 1000 and death rate was higher but spread rate was lower. It is in the same family of viruses (corona virus) as SARS and therefore exhibits same vulnerabilities and heat seems to be one of them. People have been using different types of heat therapies to fight different flu. It is not an absolute cure but its common sense things that people can apply.
