Event Cancellations due to Corona Virus. Why?

I'm just curious why are so many events being cancelled all over the world (e.g. fashion week, tech conferences, music festivals, etc).

Why are event organizers deciding to cancel their annual flagship events ?

Is it liability concerns (e.g. if people get sick your conference, you get a lawsuit) or is it goodwill reasons (e.g. companies don't want their brands be associated with events that made a bunch of people sick) or something else ?

It's really hurting both local and global economies. I'm kind of concern about the direction we are moving in. All big companies are cancelling their events which means a lot of deals that are not going to bem this year, local hospitality and food industries are hurt as well.

The fact that fed is cutting interest rates now is showing that Corona Virus can be a real threat to the economy.

Being in a closed room with a lot of people is one of the top ways to spread the virus.

Both cases are valid. Just take a look at the cruising industry. Princess is hurting now big time. Diamond Princess was in quarantine, other 2 ships is with norovirus. Where they would dock,they are protesting.

So yes,first of all civil lawsuits and class action lawsuits. 2nd is how many dead we have so far?
In Italy it is over 100 already in a short period,from Chine you will not get a proper count as the gov will not tell us the truth. The virus reached USA also, can you imagine what it will be if it goes into areas like the undeveloped Africa, or even worse : the very poor part of India,where they don't even have water?

Global economy is already affected,but i think this is only the beginning,it will get much much worse.

Because one of the main symptoms of Corona which is largely unreported is that it can effect an enzyme in the brain that relates to dopamine production, and therefore the ability to feel enjoyment.

The organisers know that if a large number of people in the audience have contracted the illness that their ability to feel happiness will be altered, and so they probably don't want to risk this occurring.

No one wants to fly on a plane. No one wants to be quarantined for 2 weeks at a conference.

Attendance is going to be much lower than expected and planned for by these events.

Low attendance means the events are not going to be profitable to put on. Canceling may result in a smaller loss than running the event.

Also, sick employees can't work. If everyone in an office gets sick, that means a loss of at least 2-4 weeks of productivity.

Most if these events are sold out way in advance. Also they are insured against significant losses in case of a global pandemonium such as Corona Virus outbreak.

As someone else pointed out earlier, it must be the class action suit concern they are worried about.
