Hey @Williamsonsondvn really appreciate the journey, i'll definitely learn a lot from it.

I started my own tiktok account yesterday for a certain game. Im hoping to build a following that I can transfer to my youtube. Anyways, I just have a few questions about your method.

1. Is this all original content or are you just reuploading videos from instagram pages etc?

2. Do you think a caption helps the algo (Kind of like how SEO impacts searches)

3. Do you find that the algo prefers a certain video length?

Thanks man and best of luck with your journey.

1. all original, no reuploading
2. caption helps, but for engagement, not for algo. Good caption = gets more people to comment = pushes video higher
3. not below 8s, not above 12s

Do you also do Follow/Unfollow to grow your account?

Update: I'm not happy with the current way things are going. More specifically: I've been very occupied with my other business ventures and I haven't been able to post as much as I'd like.
Ideally, I'd want to post minimally 2 to 3 times a day.

I do admit that the growth is decent, but I've got a bunch of videos of which the stats are really subpar* (lower than 15k views).
I know the reasons, mainly optimal posting time and the way I set the videos up.

I want to make adjustments within the next 3-5 days to fix these errors.

More specifically:

1) analyze the entire account and all posted videos + engagement to figure out optimal posting times based on my current following / target audience

2) recreate a whole bunch of the videos that 'did not go viral', fix some of the errors in it (some small, e.g. it takes 1-2 seconds too long to get to the punch line, which causes a lot of people not to continue watching), add an "element of surprise" which causes more people to react/comment, etc

My approach to these videos is the following: I know these videos 'should' go viral, but because of factors, they didn't. Mainly posting time and 'mess-ups' in the video creation (as mentioned above).
So what I do is: I recreate the entire video from scratch, change up 1-2 minor details (and make sure the TikTok algo doesn't see it as 'the same video') and then post it again. I repeat this process until that specific type of video goes viral.
I don't download & reupload the same video. I think it's a risky one because the TikTok algorithm is smart and for this account and its long term purposes, I never want to violate any community guidelines.

Of course, it is more time-intensive so that's why I'm unhappy with the current rate of things, as I need to make time to get it to grow more.

On top of that:

- I'll wait a little while with creating the next accounts (also because of lack of time)
- these accounts will be 1-3 accounts within hyperniches

Update: growth is slow. I'll be making adjustments to the videos I'll be posting tomorrow.
I'll also lay out a new content strategy plan to increase the chances of videos going viral.

Note: I'm basing 'growth is slow' on the fact that in the last 2-3 days, none of my videos went viral. I'm blaming this to poor quality (I haven't been posting the videos I want to and sort of cheating out on posting)

Based on past data & observations, continuous posting is important to keep pushing your overall reach. If you don't post for a long time, or not frequently enough, there's usually a visible drop in reach.

On top of that, posting more frequently gives you more chances of going viral. If you post 1 video a day, you have 1 chance at going viral. If you post 5 times, you've got 5 changes. And so on.

What I want to fix: I want to fix my current videos 'not going viral' and up the overall amount of posting to 4 times a day. I'll probably be making a batch of up to 20 variants of potentially viral videos tomorrow.

In addition, I've been trying to figure out if 'commenting plays a role' or not. I know that other people commenting pushes your overall reach, and I am trying to figure out if you commenting on someone's comment.. and them replying (again) to your reply to their comment.. if that pushes the reach of the video or not.

Because if it doesn't, then it's a waste of time to comment. I'll be collecting more data on this and update the results.

Can you please clarify that part? What you do for algo not to see your video as the same one?

OK, big update on my strategy.

Today was a slow day. Only 150 new followers.
Reasons:
1) I haven't posted 'viral videos' in the last 4-6 days.
2) I did not post ANY videos in the last 1-2 days.
3) the cause is obviously TIME but also SLACKING OFF on original content and creativity (due to not taking the time, I kinda skimmed it, which the numbers show)

Today, I sat down for 2 hours and COMPLETELY overhauled my content strategy. These are some of the changes I'll be making:

1. Video Posting Frequency

I will be posting 3 videos PER day. These videos are 'attempt at viral videos'.

2. From now on: ONLY 'High Probability of Going Viral' Videos

I experimented with some 'meh' videos, mainly due to time restrictions. However, it takes time to edit and post bad videos.
That's time wasted, as it could have been spend on viral videos. A mistake on my end, not sure why it happened but sorted it out now.

TikTok is NOT a QUANTITY over QUALITY game. It's actually a 'FIGURE OUT ALGO' then 'MAKE VIDEOS THAT DO WELL WITH THE ALGO' then 'ADD SOME QUALITY' then 'POST AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE' game.

However, people just posting 20 videos a day, most of them "not following the algo criteria" == it won't matter.
Sure, you might get a lucky video. But if we're going based off luck, then what are you doing here? Go buy a lottery ticket.

This means: all the videos I'll be posting follow a VERY strict and SPECIFIC structure with all very similar elements, including but not limited to:

- video duration (length)
- grabbing attention in first micro-second
- keep attention high during video
- use caption for engagement
- don't allow any time wasters -- no time to 'look away from the screen' basically
- always end with a CTA (call to action)

^ Honestly, you could look at it as "hypercrazy over-the-top loud noisy sales ads" lol but then applied to niche topics

3. Daily monitoring

I decided to allocate 1-2 hours MAX each day to figure this out better. Instead of doing large batches of 20+ videos, I'll be doing smaller batches day to day for the next week/weeks.
This mainly to gain more experience as well, to understand things even better and then replicate those insights.

Otherwise I run the risk of creating 5 videos of the same type, said video underperforming and then having wasted time on creating similar videos.

I'd rather look at the data, then decide what to change, add or do. I did it out of time-constraint before but it ended up costing me more time and less results. Silly me.

4. Optimized approach to save time

I create a bunch of videos, from concept to recording to editing to 100% finalizing every detail. Then I keep them as drafts.
Right now, I aim to make 4 minimally a day. After a few days, once the new process is under way, I'll be upping that number to 6-10 videos per batch.
Once I get that done, I'll be able to probably only make videos every 2 and later every 3 days. At least my target is to only make videos every 2 days.

On top of that, because they are ready to go, I have all apps blocked, I unblock, post the videos (with some intervals) and I'm done with it.
This way I'm not distracted throughout the day either. Otherwise it becomes a huge time sunk.

5. Figured out better posting times based on follower data

(I will only be posting within the window most of my followers are active, no-brainer)

6. Specific adjustment approach

If after 24-48 hours the videos aren't not going mini-viral (minimally 2 x amount of followers) or semi-viral (minimally 3-5 x amount of followers),
then I will download the video (through external third party software) and reupload. I will add minor changes using text, editing, filters, caption and emojis to make the video appear different to the algorithm.

If after 24-48 hours the videos are going semi-viral or viral (and I see decent traction), I will recreate the videos from scratch, using the same general theme but with slight tweaks.
This is to ride out the same wave. If a video gets 200k-1mil views, a second almost identical video (with details that are different) can get AT LEAST 20-25% of the same reach within the week that follows.

Also, separate post because the other one is lengthy AF.

If anyone is wondering: why so much effort into this?

1) I don't like chance. If you throw something at the wall and it sticks, then repeat the process, and it doesn't, then what's the darn point?

2) when I do something, I want to do it well

3) this is for the long term, I already got the data from first test accounts that I'm now replicating on this 'account #1'
Once this starts going well (25k - 50k - 100k followers), I will take the data and methods and apply it to new accounts. To then grow those and start monetizing as well.

I don't care about growing one account by being lucky. I care about repeating this process for multiple accounts and for future partnerships (and other ventures).

Thank you for this information, really useful. Also, you mentioned that you will be uploading videos with a specific duration. I read somewhere that optimal video duration for TikTok is 10-12 seconds. Do you agree with that?

I 100% disagree. The ideal length is 8-9 seconds.
From a backend perspective, you need multiple loops if your video is less than 8 seconds. So that's why minimally 8 seconds.

If the same scores (give or take) are applied to a completed video of 8 or 9 seconds, what's the point of getting people to watch another 2-3 seconds?
It's riskier as that are 3 extra seconds they need to watch. Those seconds.. they might stop watching and you have a lower % completion rate, and the video gets a lower score.

Of course, you can make viral videos that are 20s. I'm not denying that. It's just about probabilities. I try to keep all my videos between 8-9 seconds.

Right, the video should be short enough to keep user's attention and at the same time long enough for it to have some content.

Nice work man. Some quick questions if you don't mind?

1. Do you believe the more vids you post the higher your reach will get? The type of vids/niche I'm in, doing 3 vids a day would very hard to accomplish and it seems a bit unfair to expect that to get popular for certain types of brands.

2. I've heard someone say that your first video is your best chance at getting your profile/account to get big. My first video had a good reach, it has dropped significantly since but I'm not shadowbanned. Would you say it's best to just start a new account? Or do you believe you can get your account back together viral reach again if the right video takes off?

3. Do you believe using bots or manual follow/unfollow method can stunt your reach when you post videos?

1. Quantity only matters if you follow the high quality approach that caters to what the algo favours. Rather create 1 video that the algo prefers than 20 the algo doesn't. You don't need to post 3 times (or more) a day to grow. You can definitely grow into 10k range and all the way up to 25-50k and possibly* even 100k range during 2020 by just posting once a day, or even just a few times a week, given that what you post at least somewhat caters to what the algo prefers.

I am just talking about: if you want 10k+ followers in a week, then you want to be posting 3 times a day.

Also: you are limiting your upside by already saying that your niche is hard to post. I don't know what your niche is, but you are the subjective factor limiting the creation process. What niche is it? If you don't feel comfortable mentioning here, just PM me. But I can tell you this: it doesn't matter what niche you are in, you can always post more with minimal effort. You just have to create a system and process for yourself. You don't have to be 100% creative every single video. You could literally do a 3-part video and have that as 3 separate videos each day. That's 3x the output for about the same input.

2. Your first video is 100% the most important video. I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm guessing it's goes somewhere 5-10x (minimally) compared to other videos. Also much quicker growth ratio.

To answer your question: a new account depends... it depends on what you are trying to do. If you posted a video that didn't go really viral, you could repost the same video and see what happens. You could try with a new account.
I always put the most time in the first video of a new account and aim usually at 50k-500k views for said video. If it performs less, I'll start over again by posting a second video, or worst case scenario, new account. But so far, that hasn't happened yet (the need for a new account due to low performance).

3. Don't use bots. Period. This isn't Instagram. I ran experiments on multiple accounts for this. F/UF is useless for TikTok. The system doesn't favour it, it just doesn't work. And you add additional risk of being shadowbanned or banned altogether. You can grow much quicker than bots if you focus on viral videos.

i've been hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out this new app and been learning a lot from your posts!
Gotten only to 300 followers. I've been following people that follow creators in my niche and some organic.
I've been on Tik Tok for about 2 weeks now posting twice a day in the Photography niche specifically taking portraits of strangers. I have 14 videos up now. It seems every video I post gets less views than the previous. My 1st one got 1000 and then all my others stay at around 300 views. I get good engagement when I post (comments and likes). Should I create a new account or is this normal?

What type of videos do you make? Like is it you or a person talking/dancing/singing??? Is there a human in the video at all?

or is it a video like a picture and it has captions??? And it reels through a few slides/pics?

Start over from zero. You're still small, you'll thank me later. Rather than continue like this for months and realizing you could have done it waaay quicker.

Follow these guidelines:

Figure out a NICHE before you start. Rather spent 1 week figuring the niche out than starting without a clear plan.
TikTok is very.. well.. strict. Let's say you post videos of dolphins. If it's just dolphins being cute, clearly.. it's liked by people who like dolphins. Or cute things.
If you then switch it up with, say.. furniture.. your reach will almost vanish.

Photography = is not a niche. That's 1 general broad category. Find a niche within that category.
Try to also be clear on what your end goal is. What do you want to get out of the account? Brand awareness? Reputation? Clients? Leads? Affiliate links?

If your niche is 'portraits', spent some time researching what other photographers on the platform do and take a look at how to make your videos stand out as well.
Look at the different aspects in their videos.

Honestly, you can literally post a video of an egg and have it go semi-viral or full viral. As long as you stick to the right criteria.

So if after figuring out your niche and end goal, you still want to do portraits of people. Then sit down and ask yourself the following questions:

- how can I grab attention in the first micro-second
- what CTA (call to actions) can I add through text or captions
- what effects can I add to keep attention high
- can I keep the videos between 8 to 10 s
- and so on ... (the list is long)

If you just post videos without thinking of the ^above, then you're just going based off luck.

Can you grow your account by just doing whatever and sometimes being 'lucky'? Yes. But the question should be: what is the minimal input strategy to get the maximal output?

I've helped people grow their accounts from 0 to 10k in less than 7 days by posting 1-3 times.
And I talk to people who have been posting for 10 times a day since November and now have 10-20k.

Sure, the latter have as many followers. But they had to post... 10x90-120 days? That's a crazy input for the output they're getting.
