They even crackdown on countries where the rates/hour is low.

Anyone who could help activate the Upwork for non-first world countries?

You can make some serious money on here. I average $350-2,000 with the projects I land on upwork. The most I've made is $5k in one day from one new client.

If you choose a good niche and got actual skills and sales experience, Upwork is a great place to land new projects and keep busy!

It's not easy from the beginning without any reviews to land your first client on freelance websites like upwork. It's not just how perfect your proposals are, clients want to see recommendations from others that you're good to work with.

one way to deal with it, is to offer free samples of your services, mention that in your bid proposal. if it's content writing for example, you tell the client you'll provide the first 3 articles free.

Also you should always mention that you're ready and available to start working on the project right away, and make sure to stay online. finally you should notice when there are less people placing bids, so that you'll be available to submit your own bids. I've used this trick in the past on freelancer.com, during the day, for Indian time zone, you'll find 100's of bids within hours, most of them with better reviews. so like around 12AM upward on Indian time zone, i am available and almost every night i'll get a response from one or 2 clients since not many people are bidding. i believe upwork is filled with Indians too, so you need to find the time they're not active, even if you're Indian yourself, you have to be active through the night to keep bidding.

Start with low paying job listings, just for the sake of earning your first few reviews, most of these projects with low pay, don't attract much bids, so bid on such projects, there is a high chance of winning such bids especially if you can provide work samples.

Reselling design services like logo design, flyers and lots of graphic work. Check fiverr, you can get a lot of ideas when it comes to design gigs.

You can get high margins too when it comes to logo design, it's just a matter of finding the right clients, you can outsource good logo design on fiverr for only $10 and sell to clients for $100, $200 or more.

If you're however looking for better margins, providing services like GMB optimization, Website SEO, or Web design are better. without spotting the right clients, even selling these services dead cheap will not attract clients easily.

I believe any service you choose can give you high profit margins.

When i start upwork it was very hard for me to get approved. My profile rejected more than 10 times. But i didn’t give up on the process. I rewrite my descriptions several times. Changed my profile picture. Create stunning portfolios and i changed my main line several times until i’m satisfied.

Trick is be the client first and check your upwork profile. This trick will help you to understand whether you want to hire you or not. You have to edit the profile until you are satisfied and until you need to hire your profile .

Finally i got approved my upwork account. But taking contracts was very hard for me.I did some researches about how to approach clients.

I got my first contract after 3 days of hard work. There is a style in writing proposals and i cracked the code for that.Connects should be use effectively and i build a strategy to reduce the wastage of connections.

I happen to get more contracts after I took tests related to my skills in upwork.
Problem is not on the skills most probably. It is on how you show off them in your profile.

I think that freelance exchanges have very high competition and you need make your portfolio more bright for the customer. High CTR ad if u want =))

Always done it as a full service and you can just outsource it if needed to someone reliable. Actually, my 5k client was from Canada and is now a good friend of mine haha. Honestly you can learn a lot from people so always have an open mind. There is a thread somewhere here from a guy who proposed a method about getting clients via indeed and other job board websites. It works! I landed a client recently by sending out some job applications. I built out a solid resume and the client was impressed by it. Business owners will start visiting your linkedin profile and if you got that down nicely with a CTA, they will reach out!
