When i start upwork it was very hard for me to get approved. My profile rejected more than 10 times. But i didn’t give up on the process. I rewrite my descriptions several times. Changed my profile picture. Create stunning portfolios and i changed my main line several times until i’m satisfied.

Trick is be the client first and check your upwork profile. This trick will help you to understand whether you want to hire you or not. You have to edit the profile until you are satisfied and until you need to hire your profile .

Finally i got approved my upwork account. But taking contracts was very hard for me.I did some researches about how to approach clients.

I got my first contract after 3 days of hard work. There is a style in writing proposals and i cracked the code for that.Connects should be use effectively and i build a strategy to reduce the wastage of connections.

I happen to get more contracts after I took tests related to my skills in upwork.
Problem is not on the skills most probably. It is on how you show off them in your profile.
Just think about these points i mentioned. Will meet you soon

Dear xxxxx( Call with the name:You can find the name of most of clients easily from upwork)

I have seen your job posting in upwork and i'm pretty sure i can do it without a doubt.. You can visit my profile and portfolio for further verification. This is my company website xxxx . you can read about our work here.( Build Trust with the client) I decided to apply this project because i have great experience in structural analysis and designs. I have mastered bscodes, eurocodes and australian codes. Because of that I can adopt to an any other design code very soon.( Show why you are different from others)

I have few questions to ask about your project. Hope to discuss with you soon. ( Left a rapport with the client, he might be curious about questions)

Feel free to ask anything ( Make the client Comfortable)

Cheers
Name xxxx ( Just a friendly greeting with name)

This one is a very effective proposal pattern , i have build with the experience. This pattern can be change with services you offer. I'm still a newbie in BHW. But i'm hoping to post my experience here. i hope your support in future posts.

Nice, how much money have you made? And in how many days?
Dear friend,
I got Two 50$ orders within 2 days in my first week for Graphic Design. Then i had to wait for like month for next cycle. First i had no idea how to send proposals. But now i know how to send them effectively and how to select jobs where i can have a shot. I found some tricks to approve my working profile as well. We cannot send proposals without profile getting approved.

I earned more than 5000$ from fiverr in last two years. It is not a large amount when considering the time span. But it was effortless. I hired a guy to do that. So i just have to sit and watch him. He is doing it right now and i changed my focus into upwork now. I would like to share my knowledge with you guys. I'm hoping to team up with some of you for future goals

Thanks for this, can you also share about profile descriptions / taglines? Thanks again!!

When sending proposals in Upwork USE "HAVE QUESTIONS" TRICK. This will increase chances of approving your proposal.

Profile Descriptions and taglines are depends on your service category. I can come up with some taglines if you can tell me the category.

Tagline and description are very critical factors in upwork.

I spend a month to come up with a good tagline. I revised it again and again. Tagline should be unique and simple, but it should not be broad.

Try to narrow the tagline and emphasis your best skill. Don't try to sell many skills in upwork. Focus on ONE.

I had a guy to do proofreading on my description. I spent 2 days to create my description.

I will post some important tips to create a stunning description if you want.

Concentrate on one or two core skills and don't lie about skill-levels, it always, always.

Tells clients what hiring you brings to the table.

Be friendly with your description. Introduce you briefly and what you offer.

Add a professional looking image as profile picture.

That first line is the line that decides if a client will click on your profile or not. Make it count and make it a call to action to look at your whole profile.

proofread it!

Fix all the mistakes.

Check the below example

Look at this description. Reader will focus on the first line at first This guy used his first line to make a connection with the client.
He don't have a professional looking image. But that's fine for top rated guy. When you are coming as a newbie for upwork, profile picture have to be somewhat good.

Any tips about no work experience or no portfolio, is it okay to fake it?

If you don't have work experience you should build fake experience.

Damn, I just found out I have a profile on upwork before they changed their name to Upwork .. LOL..!

Thanks for Tip OP.

If you don't have work experience you should build fake experience.
That can be risky once the client starts to test your skills.

You should know what you are doing. I'm telling for people who can do something. If he has the skillset but no experience, i think faking experience is fine.

Upwork is awful - the fees they take is staggering and there are tons of clients trying to screw freelancers over.

Is it good for the top tier of worker? Yes, but it takes a lot of grit & grind to reach that level - some would say you're time is better off spent trying to put another online endeavor together.

Then again, I started off using eLance and UpWork. Baby steps.

THen what websites do you prefer for freelancing?

I think Upwork is one of the highly paying freelance websites.
They even crackdown on countries where the rates/hour is low.

Anyone who could help activate the Upwork for non-first world countries?

Well , besides that congrats of your progress (which is just adapting and improving to get approved and to work on what you need to read) i found it pretty weird that you are spooning the way you write to your customers , i dont mean any saturation by that , it’s just for zero purpose if someone is that lazy that he can’t into google and to work on writing. And by the way upwork is that kind of portal where you bring skills to the table and based on that you work with people , i dont find it any blackhat or going above general meaning of freelancing its just medium like freelancer so naming thread 2019 there isnt anything new there really. For all people asking how it is , move your ass to any portal maybe your country have its own too , skills for monies simple as that.

Yeah. just try to give much information as you can. To get a better clue about how you should get your first upwork client I would suggest to put yourself in the shoes of the guy who will hire you. Information is the key. If for example, I am looking to hire someone to do keywords research, I see two people.

X
Y

X - Wrote in their profile the tools that they work with. SEMRUSH,AHREFS,ETC
Y - Didn't wrote anything about tools. he Just wrote that he is doing SEO and about himself.

Which one I will be more likely to hire?

Hello and thanks for your advice,
I have done 4 projects on upwork and three of them were successful but I failed the fourth as I had some circumstances. My rating is 75%, will I be able to get jobs with that job success rate? How can I boost it? In my profile, I have three amazing reviews, Will that gonna help?

That is awesome thread, i just created my account 12 hours ago and rejected one time and re submitted again and then approved, passed 2 tests and submitted 3 proposals and got 1 successfully after 12 hours. Upwork is good game if you know how to get the clients. Best of luck buddy
