How to Make 6 Figures Online - A Post You'll Need

Things like this sound great but it's actually only for beginners. For anyone else it's terrible advice. It's based on the premise that businesses only fail because of a lack of effort. That's simply not true. Hundreds of thousands of people a year work countless hours trying to launch their business only to have it fail. Some people work so hard they burn themselves out and have stress related health problems.

Not everything will make money. You have to know when something is not going to work out. You also have to know if you are working on something that will go out of style by the time you get it built up.

So this advice the OP gives sounds great, but millions of people over the years have followed it and ended up with nothing. You need to know when to jump ship.

Hey man that exactly how ya do it, I didn't know anything about webcams when I started with them, in fact I didn't think there could be any money in them until one day I made $4, I started learning more and more about them, I am not making 6 figures yet but I am very close.

This is a very negative mindset, and also shows me you haven't actually read my post.

Firstly, the purpose of the share is not telling people to work harder. It's telling people that they must pick 1 thing and stick with it for a long period of time. Master it.

It's also applying to digital businesses.

Youtube ads works.

Creating videos works.

Facebook ads work.

Affiliate marketing works.

The dating niche works.

The adult niche works.

You need to pick 1 area and focus on it for a very long period, mastering every area of it if you want to be successful. This is the core point.

Secondly, no, this isn't just for beginners. Quite the opposite. It's even MORE important for people making $200k-$1mil/year if they want to go beyond that. Try to find me examples of someone bringing in $5mil/year who's doing a bit of everything. You'll struggle. Anyone making anything close to real money focuses on 1 area. Bill Gates wasn't off creating car wash businesses, monitor businesses and microchip companies. He focused on making a great OS.

Amazon is just 1 site. Bezos didn't go off and try to capture every other area of the market. They just focused on creating the most convenient online shopping experience.

Zuckerberg just focused on a social media platform.

You'll find guys making $10mil/year with 1 hyper focused, hyper-niche business. They are the best at it and they know it inside out. They have flawless systems for their business. On the other hand you'll find countless people making $1mil/year who have about 10 things going on, multiple streams of income.

It's very rare that someone can do 2-3 things at once and have massive success. There's just not enough hours in the day, days in the year.

And third. Millions of people have not followed the advice. This is a vague figure with no data associated. Yes, there are millions of "failed businesses", but from what I know of people and the world I can tell you with absolute certainty there are not millions of people who are operating on the level of person 2 in my example.

Most people, most businesses are not focused on 1 area. They're not focused on 1 single thing with the aim to be the best at that. They're just trying to capture sales everywhere. "Oh yes, I can do web design, oh and social media, and google ads, and content, and and, do you need your house cleaned too?"

And if you're working so hard you have stress and health problems, then that person is doing something they don't enjoy. Simple as that.

Tell me how many people get stress/health problems from playing 14 hours a day of world of warcraft? It's damn hard work. Gamers work a lot harder than people in most jobs. Why? Because they enjoy it and there's usually reward based systems setup that make it easy on the brain. Do something you're enjoying and start to train your brain to gain pleasure from simple accomplishments, like completing an article, researching an item, creating a video, sending an email, ticking something off your list and you won't get any stress related burnout. You'll be able to work 12 hours a day quite happily. I find it hard to *stop* working. The feeling I get from work is like the feeling of a game. I wake up feeling excited and can't wait to get on the computer. And that's because I focus on 1 thing that I enjoy, I get really good at it and I make progress every day because.. I am doing ONE thing.

Do rev share and build up multiple streams of traffic, just done use upload method, search engine, drive traffic from multiple places and have a couple sites, you never know when G will decide to take one out or videos get took down etc l, have a back up plan

I really needed to see this post. I don't necessarily agree that you need to focus on just one thing, but in this job it's very easy to just put off what you need to do until later.

Very few people do, but it's the path to *massive* money. It's counter intuitive as most people are programmed to believe that the more things you do the more money you'll make.

But it's like trying to be a mathematician, chemist, biologist, lawyer, accountant and programmer all at once. Not only do you need to pick 1, but you need to sub-sub-specialize.

The typical example is the agency. Everyone who runs an agency tries to offer everything, when you could make $5mil/year just as an SEO for chiropractors. 800 chiros, $500/mo. You have $5mil/year. Or 400 at $1k, or a mix at $500 to $2k/mo. Job done. Much easier to get a few hundred chiros when you're a specialist. You know everything about the business, your writers are specialised in this area, you know all the keywords to target and you have a whole stream of recommendations form other chiros. 2 chiros per city, UK, Ireland, AU, NZ, US and Canada and you have access to more than enough. You'd have to close 1 chiro in every 10 cities and you're set.

Compare this to the jack of all trades agency who does web design, social media, ads, seo. They have no unique edge, they have general staff, they have staff that are under utilized. It's just a big mess and ultra difficult.

Focusing on ONE thing always works.

You have NO competition when you focus on 1 thing and be the best at it.

People try something for 2 weeks, then give up and move onto the next shiny thing.

Others try something for 3 months, then give up. Yeah, still not enough.

Most think you can make money by running some process like it's a job. Set up this, do this, do that, and boom you're making money. It doesn't work like that.

I believe this is called the shiny object syndrome, and I think most of us were a victim of this when we started out in IM (at least I was).

The moment I started to focus on one (or sometimes two) projects at a time I started to make some decent money.

It may take a while before you find something that works, so it's indeed key to not give up too soon.

However, it's also important that you abandon projects on time that are simply not going to work. It may indeed cost you money and time, but it'll save you far more in the end, plus you've gained knowledge from this "failed" project as well, something that is valuable too!

That was very straight forward. I hope this one sticks to my head. I now understand what has been keeping me away from. Now, what to do? Go back to the drawing board and plan something serious.

The key distinction that I don't think I made clear was not specifically to keep with one "project", but to stay with one type of business. Remember this doesn't apply to a brick and mortar business that's more static and if your business just doesn't work you are best with another business.

This is about digital marketing.

It's about picking an area of specialty and sticking with that. The youtube video idea for example, you might be trying to sell a gamer guide for some game, and maybe that idea just totally fails. Sure, dump it, but don't dump youtube, and don't dump gaming. It's about sticking in your "broad niche" and your marketing platform.

If you're selling pink wristbands and it's just not working, then modify it, but stay close to that niche. Try necklaces etc. Don't switch from a shopify store, youtube ads marketing selling pink wristbands to seo amazon review sites.

Everything in digital marketing works. By that I mean youtube, fb, affiliate offers, email marketing. People only need to pick 1 traffic source, 1 niche and 1 promotion method and master those. Then master the source to get more volume, and master the promotion method to get more conversions. Tweak the niche if needed, but before swapping niche you need to look at your traffic source. You might for example be targeting people who want to make money at home, and using promotional methods that would work better for the guys making $5k/mo looking to take their business to the next level. If it's not possible to get the traffic you need from the source, THEN, tweak the niche.

Thank you very much! Needed this :)
You wrote it very simple and you hit it right in the bulls eye!

I think the biggest thing I would add that has changed my mindset and business would be this:

If you treat it like a hobby, you'll make "hobby money"
If you treat it like a business, you'll make "real money"

Excellent, we tend to want to manage several business ideas when we start. You're right, stay focused and excel at what you do. Perseverance is the secret to success.

This is a brilliant post and OP is 100% correct is the most important thing you can do.

The amount of people that jump from method to method is scary.

There are a couple things I would add that think are nearly as important.

1. Pick a method that is going to be long term. Don't pick one that is copying content and uploading to other websites for example. Pick something that is 100% legit if you want to build something long term. Don't want to be 10 months in to something and getting a bit of success only for loophole to be closed down.

2. Make as sure as you can the method is going to work before you go down that path. SUCCESS leaves clues these days. Learn everything you can about the method before your start. Ask yourself. Can I do that better? Can I get traffic, how?

Yes, it's better to pick something that involves skills, and not just methods. It's more long term. Something that involves things like seo, video creation, list building, funnels, paid ads. Most of these things require capital, but most things these days do. If someone is in the 1st world they should have a job, live lean and invest about $500/mo, and if they're in the 3rd world then it's harder, but they can do content writing, VA work etc. Anyone with good English and a good level of competence can at least make $5-$6/hr as a VA

Absolutely correct, thanks for the share, and thanks for the words that everyone in this entire planet needs to hear

cheers

This should be sent as an automated message to new bhw members.

Well said. Very handy and helpful. Specially those who have started and are about to start their journey threads over here. Lot of very useful and experience is shared and received without spending time and single penny.

Thanks to OP

I actually disagree, sticking to something doesn't always pay off. Sometimes it's destined to fail. I've been doing this for about 4 years and it's mostly just luck TBH, some things sell, some don't.

You and me could be doing the exact same thing, taking the exact same steps, after you year you could make $100,000 and I could just make $100. Nothing is guaranteed.

Especially with money sites which rely on search engine - When it comes to ranking on Google it's just luck of the draw. I was on page 1 once for the thing I liked, the thing I stuck with, then I lost it and spent a whole year and have been unable to get it back. But that's just how it is.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Valuable post, OP!
I would like to share some personal experiences.
If you don't know what to do, find a way to understand yourself. The most effective way for me is to keep a diary of the things I do during the day.
I follow the simple structure below
-----Time ----- What I Do -----
8:00 - 8:15 Hangout with Jack
8:15 - 8:47 Check Facebook
8:47 - 10:30 Play Skyrim
....
Yeah, you can write more details if you want. This will help you better to know yourself. The first time I did this I thought "Damn it, what the hell are I wasting time on?"
After becoming aware of yourself, you should find someone you can learn from, learn from him and change your habits to look like him. (IM Journey will help you in this case, see what he does, what he think about...)
Do not forget to write a diary. It's a habit you should keep, write the way you want and you will find yourself changing positively or negatively.

No one after a year is going to make $100.

Even someone absolutely new to SEO.

You've actually answered what I was going to ask. You said.

"I was on page 1 once for the thing I liked".

There you go. That's your problem.

Being on page 1 for a thing is not a business.

How can you physically spend an entire year on that? What were you doing? Checking rankings every day then sitting back in your chair with a smile? :) :) :) (I apologize if I'm coming across harsh, I am just trying to make a point more strongly).

You have 30 good hours a week and another 30 ok hours. 60 hours total.

In that time, if you're focus is just 1 site, you could have written, let's say 2k words per day. That's 700k words. Even 5k per week is 250k words. Anyone can manage that. Yes, writing is damn hard. Painful. But 2k words monday, 3k words tuesday, job done.

Wed/thu/fri you're emailing sites looking for guest posts. Free guest posts are out there. You will get a handful every week.

Sat/sun you're writing another 2k-3k words for guest posts. 2k sat, 3k sun.

Do that for 52 weeks.

I don't care what niche you are in. You are going to be making $500/mo minimum after 12 months. More likely, you'll be making $1k to $1500/mo, but at that stage even if your'e only on $500/mo, your site will start growing a lot month on month, since year 1-2 is the biggest growth for sites.

Even if you only manage 2k words per week for your site and 1 guest post per week, say a 1k word article. Who can't do that? 3k words per week total, and you end up with 100k words on your site and about 40-50 guest posts.

But yes, if you drop a few hundred $, order some content, slap it on a site, order a few packages and sit back you will not be successful.

And imagine the guy who can pump out 3k words per day, 6 days a week. He's got a site with 800k words of content and a ton of guest post backlinks. He's definitely not going to struggle to make $100/mo!

I think if you really get honest with yourself, you'll see that you weren't even close to any of the above.

Business is HARD WORK. It's not difficult to make money, it's difficult to work consistently hard enough without a boss or a pay cheque.

If I said to you. "Write 800k words in 1 year and get 50 free guest posts" and if you achieve that I will write you a personal cheque for $1 million and I will pay your tax bill. You would get the job done.

Yeah, this is a great technique. Most people think they're productive, but they're not.

Hey everyone,

I just felt a bit of random inspiration, as I often do before I write posts.

I've been in business for a long time, and I've had a lot of ups and downs.

Because of that experience I've really come away with an incredibly solid understanding of exactly what you need to succeed in online business, or any business for that matter.

If you follow this mindset and these instructions, then you absolutely will succeed, no matter what you've tried, how many times you've failed or how dismayed you are.

Now.. This is why almost everyone fails. This rule is almost absolute. In all my years, with all the people I've talked to, all the interviews I've watched, all the biography's I've read, I cannot think of 1 single example of someone who's succeeded who has not done this.

Massive, relentless energy put into ONE single focus for a long period of time.

That's it.

NO ONE does this. Not even close.

People try something for 2 weeks, then give up and move onto the next shiny thing.

Others try something for 3 months, then give up. Yeah, still not enough.

Most think you can make money by running some process like it's a job. Set up this, do this, do that, and boom you're making money. It doesn't work like that.

You can make $100k/year, in pretty much ANYTHING. Making videos, podcasts, creating training products, dropshipping, creating a product, re-selling a product, affiliate marketing in any niche, consulting, selling little pink hairbands.

The way to succeed is to pick ONE thing, and focus hard on it for a full year of your life. Put all your energy into it and don't make your goal to make money, make your goal to be the best at this thing. The money will follow that. Minimum $100k/year if you've picked an absolutely dire business and you're massively lacking in skills/experience.

It's near impossible to fail if you do this.

Let's use an example of how most people approach something vs the correct way.

You decide you're going to make youtube videos about games, build an email list and sell something to those people via email and you do nothing but that for a year, you'll master it.

You wake up at 8am, yawn, and decide to sleep in.. There's no hurry, you can start after lunch.

zzzzz

You get up at midday and crawl over to the computer.

You lookup some affiliate offer for gaming. Good, job done.

Next, you sign up for some email marketing software with a free plan that allows affiliate offers.

Then, you make some half hearted video about gaming and upload it.

You're now SUPER excited, expecting to be well on your way making $1k/day automated money. The dream is almost your!

Next, you stick up your opt in page.

A few days later, you've got like 5 opt-ins for your email list. You email your offer anyway and no one bites.

Bah, screw this you say, and back you go to blackhatworld to find another juicy method.

Now repeat this, for multiple methods, for years, and you have your classic "Help! I've tried everything and nothing works" person.

Maybe you're not as bad as that, but most people aren't that far off.

Now, below is the mindset of the guys you see who have made millions of dollars online.

They make a plan. They research everyone else doing gaming videos. They take notes to see what's working and what people like.

They then create a few really good videos. Putting a lot of effort into them. Let's see what happens.

They're not even bothering with monetization yet. The first thing is to get good at the videos.

A couple of weeks just releasing videos, testing the waters..

Ok, not much traction. What do I need to improve here?

They start looking at more competitors and making tweaks to their own videos and getting better at editing..

3-4 weeks in, and they're starting to get some decent views, some people are commenting, things are moving in the right direction. Let's keep improving on that.

Let's work on getting more subscribers, more feedback, more interaction. Let's test some shit.

A whole month can just be spent getting good at creating the videos and getting some views into them.

Next they look into building a list. No selling yet. Let's just work on building a list and trying different schedules for mailing useful stuff.

Maybe I'll get really creative here and go out on the street and hand out flyers for my youtube channel and get people to check it out. Why not. Nothing to lose.

We're now 3 months in and they've got a decent little channel, a few hundred people on their email list that are regularly opening their emails and things are growing.

Now let's look into monetizing..

And on and on.

What's the result?

2-3 years later that's the guy with 100k subscribers, his own product, a big email list and is making $50k+ per month and now has vast experience in youtube, video creation, list building, email marketing, funnel building, monetization, product creation, product launches, upsells, downsells and more.

The first guy is still on bhw moaning about how nothing works and the world is full of fake-gurus.

If you cannot take that approach to your business, you're not going to succeed.

You aportation GREAT like always...! Thxs in advanced
