I was just about to buy a few of these..., how could this tank the site?

Do you have any recommendations of the most reliable backlink service on BHW?

Any links you buy can put your site at risk. What I meant with my first post was that blackhat links are totally fine for a lot of projects and can bring a lot of good results but there's a risk involved vs using pure whitehat links.

As long as you are buying links its no longer whitehat. Ive seen a lot of sites with low quality links killing it in the serps for some very competitive terms.

If you infer that, then it is your choice. I'm all for high-quality low-penalty chances links.

I kind of agree with the op. long term projects require long term solutions. Not all projects necessarily need a clean whitehat strategy, but a lot do. Its fine if you use blackhat links, but then treat them like they are and don't complain when your site tanks a year later.

If you somehow convince others to add a link to your site within content for a valuable reason that too would be considered a white hat link.

If you are building link for SEO it is not worth it.
