YOOOOOOOO! Finally my memory is being used at 64%

Remember I had a problem where my memory would not, it would not go above 50% usage no matter what. Now it's at 64%

I turned on all 70 programs. None crashed, and the computer hasn't crashed either, not yet anyway.

There is a bit of lag when switching between programs, but not like before. It's better now.

Now I just need to wait for the programs to start doing heavy work. Seems at the moment they're all just sitting not really pulling any heavy weight.

Well damn, things are kinda sorta okay now. Now I wait for heavy usage, and for 12-72 hours to pass, and see what happens...

@Larry Igna I haven't forgotten about what you told me. That actually sounds super promising. I'll be looking into that next for sure

Ok, so here is the actual problem. My 2 computers are each having 70 Firefox browsers open, doing the exact same stuff.

My old PC the CPU goes between 70-100% up and down, and it works.

My new PC, the CPU goes up to 100% and just stays there. And all my browsers get slow.

I would blame the Firefox browsers, but why are the two computers behaving so differently using the same damn programs???

Well fuck me. I may have figured out why the new PC behaves differently than my old PC and what the problem is.

The fucking GPU!

See, in my old computer I have a shitty old GPU that was made some time before Christ. It has no fans on it and is small, and has a VGA port. In my new computer I have some fancy GPU. Not the best in the world, but a decent one. It has 2 big fans, has HDMI and DVI-I and DVI-D ports on it.

Well, so in my old computer in Task Manager I don't have "GPU" and "GPU Engine." But on my new computer I do have these things.

And most of the time my programs are running in GPU 0 - 3D and all is well.

However, sometimes they switch to "GPU 0 - Copy" when they visit certain pages. And when that happens to a program, that program will go from 0.5-1% usage up to even 5% usage. And as long as one of my browsers stay on such a page, the "GPU 0 - Copy" will be there next to it in the task manager.

Then the programs go even up to 5% usage. We have 70 programs, if 20 of them are on such pages, forget about it, the computer is done for, barely moving.

I'm gonna google this a little. And if I can't figure it out I'll rip the GPU out of the new computer and put the old GPU from my other computer in it. If that solves my problem, MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not... Either GPU is bad which I highly doubt it or you have some driver issues.

Use DDU and boot into safe mode and delete the drivers and do a fresh install.. Maybe not of the latest ones as I am not sure how compatible are they with your GPU.

You are overthinking this for sure and making some "stupid" decisions.

Well... I went into device manager and checked my GPU driver. I had a recent driver. The date of it was from a few months ago.

Then I clicked roll back driver, and now all of a sudden I have "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" shown there instead of my GPU. Also in task manager now the "GPU Engine" slot is empty, and only the "GPU" slot shows percentages.

Ok, I'll buy your bullshit. I'll install the most recent driver I can find and test. And then I'll also test the way I have it now (sweet sweet "Mircosoft Basic Display Adapter").

The basic display adapter will win. You know why? Cuz it's "BASIC." It's in the word, Basic. You know what that means? It means it fucking works! It keeps its mouth shut and works without a lot of bells and whistles. Like me, I keep my mouth shut and fucking work, I don't make an arrogant fancy show of it (like my shitty fucking gpu maahahaha).

Ok, I'll do the latest drivers for the GPU first because when that fails I wanna revert back to the Basic and ride my horse into the sunset

Well now you are without any drivers... I would avoid checking task manager for GPU and CPU related things as there are other softwares out there...

It should show like this if you have everything installed correctly (I assume you would be checking task manager).

MAKE SURE YOU USE DDU I wont be repeating myself ... if you encounter problems and didnt use DDU dont ask em for help.

That's how it was. And that's how it is again. I re-installed the drivers just to check, and the drivers I had on were from 8/16/2019 (installed by Windows Updates). For my GPU - AMD Radeon (TM) R9 380 Series.

Now moving on...

I'll follow them (I know you'll call bullshit on it, you'll say something is wrong, something is missing, because that's just what you do but since you didn't give me clear instructions how to do DDU, I have to do what I can based on what I find online).

And downloaded the "Auto-Detect and Install" program. It says:

Download and run directly onto the system you want to update. An internet connection is required to run the tool.

I know you'll say that's wrong too. But if it is, well, then you're just gonna have to take a hammer and a nail and create these mythical "problem solving working" drivers that I need

It is straightforward to delete drivers with DDU. They also have an option to select so it prevents windows to auto install those outdated drivers.

If you just google your GPU and Driver you would be sent to the first link where drivers from 21/1/2020 are available which is:

The above link is for Windows 10 x64 ... I am not sure what you are using so if you have any other... then download from here:

But okay.. I guess you know what you are doing. I would avoid the auto detect.

That is the latest DDU. Simply boot into safe mode, use DDU to uninstall drivers (select AMD and clean install), it will auto reboot and then you simply install the above driver which I've sent the link if you want the latest one.

Yeah but how should I know? I can't smell my fingers and know if they will work or not. I don't shoot in the dark.

I checked the release notes and my GPU version was not listed.

Then I decided to get the Auto-detect software, because the auto detect software looked like a sure thing.

It was the right course of action.

But I'll follow you to the letter. I'll use that driver and the tutorial you shared and everything. Doing it now.
