Sudden Ranked Drop? Google Algo Update?

Some bullshit's happening in G's index system.

I just saw a site with 20 pages show 2000 pages on google index. Only 20 are listed. Webmaster console shows 20 indexed. Public search says 2000 pages.

Some heavy duty bullshit is going on.

Yeah it's one hell of a mess right now. The only good news is that they will most likely fix it, because they can't leave it like this.

But yeah when will that be? Who knows...

Has anyone tried contacting them? On twitter or somewhere else?

Maybe we should support the thread on the webmaster forum in order to show that it’s an issue. I know that those admins are just fools normally telling common stuff or nothing but maybe they might report to a higher authority...

Have you seen that this thread is posted under Black Hat SEO? That's what Google want, to screw all black hat tactics, but won't succeed.

He means the google forums thread linked a couple of posts above. Just ask more people to write there to show it's a massive problem. We don't need to show the BHW thread to google people of course.

You can tweet them using this hashtag #askgooglewebmasters

I saw that they answer some questions using their off account for webmasters.

Exactly

My main site that was hit earlier in December has all but been banished from the serps. It made a small recovery over the last couple of weeks bringing it back to about 40% of pre-update traffic. As of last night, half the pages have been deindexed and the other half have dropped even further down.

At this point, I'm putting all my energy in new projects.

Hopefully soon!

Really sucks right now. Ahrefs and Semrush showing bullshit data too because the entire f'n thing is skewed...my goodness.

That's us heading to another weekend now and still, no improvements, The silence from Google is deafening, they MUST know how bad it looks. They will have read or be aware of all the rumblings going on in all the different forums, so why are they not addressing it? I would like to know is this it? Or is it an error or what, as it feels like we are all sitting in limbo hoping that something happens but we could be sitting forever.

Someone on another forum said he put all his content on an expired domain and it started ranking with no issues for how long that will stay I dunno, but if it is bringing in some revenue for him then why not!

Eventually, the penny will drop with people who use Google when they are seeing these kinds of crap results I mean stats sites and is my website up page ranking on page 1 for pretty big keywords? How is this possible? Did someone turn google upside down?

I think the google engineers need to come off the whiskey Xmas is over guys!!

Similar situation for me. 16th of December I had around a 50% decrease in traffic, but it gradually recovered to about 60-70% of pre-update traffic. This update though has absolutely destroyed my site. I have lost almost all traffic completely. Only have around 10% remaining.

strange things are happening. Pages those were ranking on 1st page of google are getting deindexed of my 2 sites since yesterday.

I have the complete opposite problem. I have suddenly found deindexed pages created for my site by the previous owner and which I never knew about are suddenly showing in the index. There is nothing there so they 301 to my home page.

anyone tried building links to see if it'll make a difference?

Yes, I did. Rankings didn't come back. Just google dance like always.

I also tried adding more content and somehow this made it even worse. Suddenly some pages started to get deindexed.

i am pretty sure google has introduced something that lowers your ranking after any kind of onsite update to see how you react....

take a look at the top page in your niche? when was the last time it got updated?

But this would be something really weird to do. Like its absolutely natural to have some kinda "reaction" when suddenly pages are getting deindexed or lose the rankings. I guess only a very low percent of people are like "Oh fuck it Google, I won't change shit and I don't add any content or build links" the first thing many people would do is checking out Google Webmaster Tools, use the URL inspector or something like this. Then probably checking onpage or disavowing links etc.
