Hi guys,
First of all, I am not a native English speaker so I hope everyone can understand everything I want to convey.
So below is what I have learned after nearly 2 months build a money site though the expired domain (I know 2 months is too early to evaluate anything, However in my own opinion, we need to look at the problem and find ways to fix it. This is also the reason I posted this topic on BHW with desire sharing the problems I am encountering and together find out how to fix it
Let's go:
1. The expired domain:
I bought this domain on Godaddy's Auction for about $200. Niche: Home/kitchen, Food...
+ History: The previous owner is a blogger who creates this blog to share the recipes and things related to the kitchen. She has hundreds of articles about recipes. So the domain's history is clean.
+ Backlink: totally natural and not spam. Most backlinks come from cooking blogs(Some quality backlinks: Huffingtonpost, Huffpost)
I decided to buy this domain
And Below is some of my mistakes, so I hope if someone intends to build a website based on an expired domain, please be noted:
1. Check carefully the links pointing to your expired domain.
For my domain, the links which the previous owner used is: http://www.domain.com
However, I built the moneysite is: https://domain.com which did not 301 redirects carefully.
---> My advice: We should keep the original structure and only make 301 redirects from HTTP -> HTTPS to minimize the link 301. I think Google doesn't like that
2. 404 Pages, Broken Pages
As you can see in the below image: there is too much 404 Pages, Page with redirect. If you are Google, Do you appreciate a website that has too many broken pages? I think is no
----> My advice: Try to recover the Pages which have traffic and quality backlinks before adding any new content.
3. Language Content
This maybe is my biggest mistake. (in my personal opinion)
The previous owner used English content But I have built the money site with Italian Content. This results in up to 2 languages on one website And as you know, we can use many ways to solve this. However, You will not be able to do it perfectly.
---> My Advice: Only one language should be used. The best way is to make 301 redirects to a new site( don't use the expired domain to build a moneysite if it's 2 different languages.
I decided to stop this website and buy a new domain in Italy because my customers are Italian, So I think the domain .it is the best. I still use this expired domain to 301 redirects to my new site when really needed. (I want to take advantage of the power of backlinks from that expired domain).
------>>>My current problem is the articles that I have published before that on the expired domain. I want to use it again.
Where is the best way?
#1: Deindex those posts (recommended). If use this way, how should I do it?
#2: 301 redirects those posts to new website.
Anything advice for me?
Thanks in advance and Goodluck with your project
