looks like either major technical issue (could be related to onpage seo) or google shadowbanned them manually

Could you PLEASE explain shadow banning?
Also. what is MEDIUM?

honestly it looks like technical, programming and onpage team on medium is bad. i managed to sneak do-follow links there as far as i remember, and they indexed. i wouldnt be so surprised if site tanked due to some simple technical issue in code caused by incompetent workers

ok, but what exactly is MEDIUM?

So link building on Medium may not be as effective as it used to be. Personally I'd avoid it. Maybe it has something to do with rank loss people have reported in 'Sudden Ranked Drop? Google Algo Update?'

It would be interesting to know if they have Medium links.

I don't thing Medium would hurt your SEO....I would say its some of their sort of issue....give it some time

Medium got hit by Google in its latest update, now that's interesting. Medium has a super strong domain, wonder what was the cause....

That's what I think, the hit lines ups perfectly with the latest google updates, moreover, it also correlates with Medium link policy change and how difficult they make now to post content, especially for new accounts. There are a couple of posts here from people being banned, not able to post and looking for an alternative.

But how could google alghorytmically tell medium was doing that? Without manual intervention?

Don't underestimate Google :) It's not what medium was doing, it's what people were doing to medium :) They were ranking for ridiculous keywords like 'hacking or hacked or game hacks' just to give you a few examples, not because of relevance but the domain authority, they were ranking for hundreds if not more keywords that the domain had nothing to do with the keywords itself. Besides that it at one point it became too popular among SEOs if you want to rank, place a link on medium. When everyone is talking about that sooner or later it had to come to google's attention. We don't know and probably never will if it was a manual or algorithmic penalty, the fact is if something becomes too popular like just place a link(s) on the medium it's a matter of time before you see a fallout. The same happened to 301s. At one point everyone was talking about them like the perfect solution to ranking high. They are still effective but not as easy to do as they were before.

Ok, so I'm gonna assume that you are all referring to the site medium.com. I'm totally new to linkbuilding and for others here that are completely unaware of the site and how it can help with our link building efforts, I was simply hoping for some info. Thx anyways.
