Try amazon.fr and set database setup to France.

Amazon.fr on US database setup show indeed a great improvement but in france big drop.

(Especially you can see a slight raise up every december since 2012 but not this year)

well as I understand they added more keywords to their database, so they are tracking more keywords now

Took a hit today but nothing changed. I think it's the holiday. This thread died so it looks like most people are back to normal.

Still down from 1,200 a day to 200, well up to 300 a day.

No 301 redirects, random sites were hit but are still getting trickles of traffic. Looks like they're being added back into the index.

My theory is there was a server error or something as it doesn't look like a normal penalty.

That's exactly what happened to one of my websites last year. In 2018 they had a shitload of updates starting from June, the EAT, The YMYL and all the rest. It was brutal. December 2018 was the proverbial last nail in the coffin. I didn't do anything until March as I was busy with something else. Then I cleaned up my link profile and improved on-page SEO, mainly lower keywords density. What hit me was the overuse of money anchor text and high keyword density on site. The recovery didn't happen overnight, it was a long slow process but today the website is doing better than before. And I have learned a lot how google operates, I think that was the most valuable lesson. So don't give up, just work on it and you'll be fine.

LoL nothing strange here for 3 months and im freaking pumping my own PBN's + content like a mofo. Shit is quite stable.. also for my 301 sites.. nothing unusual with this update. Still working like a charm.. In all kinds of niches, insurance, energy, finance and many more.. Im quite happy with it till now.. loads of green rankings and keyword growth like crazy the last 2 months.. I guess im lucky guys, i wish you all the best and ranking jumps up in 2020.. Keep working it and pump your website with valueable content and links

But when this happened to you a year ago were the “symptoms” the same? With keywords ranking on 1 today and disappearing to page 10 tomorrow only to be back the day after tomorrow and then again gone? Isn’t all this proof for some kind of new indexing or Bert not being “outrolled” to its fullest extent yet?

In the begging, the same, later from October 2018 it was just a steady decline. I'm pretty sure that this update has something to do with links and anchor test because I still have 2 stubborn posts that didn't fully recover. The ranking was stable and all of a sudden the keywords that I target with those 2 posts started to dance like crazy around 17th. On-page SEO is spot on, the same as other posts ranking 1 and 2. There are no 301s, I've never done them. So it must be links and/or anchor text. To tell you how sensitive google is to anchor text here is a short story. A few weeks ago I've created around 10 web 2.0 links targeting brand new post that was ranking on page 3 without any links with exact keyword anchor. Within a week they went down to the 10th page of SERP and below. Seeing what was going on I want back and changed the anchor text, I also edited the articles a bit to make google think that not only anchor text has changed. Sure enough within 10 days, they went right back where they were and now some are on 1st and the rest on the 2nd page of SERP.

Happy New Year Everyone, hope you all had a good one! An update from me - My 2 sites that had totally tanked in November and came back 2 weeks ago although not fully but back enough to send some decent traffic again, well they have again reverted back to what they were in November, Tanked again tonight to the exact same positions as what they were when they first tanked. I honestly had a bit of false hope these last 2 weeks thinking I was heading in the right direction again and boom! They are away again.

This is getting really annoying & frustrating, and I am now at a stage where I am wondering what my next move will be. All this waiting it out and then they come back to get pulled again is getting on my nerves. I have other sites still ranking and think it really is a numbers game and the more sites you have out there the better.

So my plan is to make more and more sites and wait it out with these other 2 I will give them a couple of weeks and if they are not back I will start testing

When I go to google though and type in mydomain.com I have 10 boxes underneath with all my inner pages ( so I thought this meant it was trusted)

Thanks for the insight - although I cannot tell that my experience proves your anchor theory. My site has around 250 pages, all related to cars (more specific the change of motor oil).

The articles are very similar but of course they deal with specific different brands/car types. It seems like 2/3 of them just disappeared from the Index for most of their main keywords whereas some of them still rank well (I tend to believe the older articles do). But I just don’t see a real pattern...

Since I did no blackhat and the content is fine (no manual penalty aswell) I’m asking myself whether the site will recover or if I should start planning a relaunch with slight optimizations for each article.

The update was rolled out later in Europe so I was hoping for some U.S. guys maybe telling about a recovery
