At least personally, i always thought the term long-tail keyword refers to the number of words a keyword had and after watching this Ahrefs´ YouTube video on the topic, Sam Oh (as always) does a great job setting it straight for me and "busting" this myth.

I don´t know if i was alone in this or this was "standard" knowledge but decide it share this video and perhaps help others that might be in the same situation as me.

My thinking was along the lines of what Sam said in the video - long tail means lower competition, smaller search volume and easier to rank. But, by extension they tend to be phrases with more words because short common words and phrases tend to be more popular and longer phrases are used when people are looking for very specific I formation and there tend to be lots of close variations each with a low amount of searches.

having said that, it’s a good share and it’s still made me look at the term long tail slightly differently - and I’m appreciating that a long tail phrase is t necessarily a long phrase.

thanks for sharing.

I was kind of on the same boat as you in regards to this.

In the past few months and thanks to GroupBuys, i was able to use many SEO tools but i have to say, i have become a big fan of Ahrefs for any SEO related task which includes keyword research.

I just love Ahrefs Blog as well as their YouTube channel (especially this one).

They have some amazing video tutorials on their YT channel playlist on topics such as keyword research and linkbuilding that are just INCREDIBLE!

I highly recommend anyone to go check them out!
