Almost any 1$ / month hosting I have tried got my website(s) getting hacked at least once, also their system always have some bug(s) which irritates me, and shit customer support. This is why.

forget about dollar 1 hosting i am paying for Hostgator business plan and still it's slow as f**k and crashes often.

Well, I would disagree as cheap hosting doesn't always mean that it's crappy. It doesn't always mean that anything is crappy because it's cheap in general - data breaches and leaks can happen to anyone, to any big company including Facebook, it's how they manage to fix it that matters. Retail stores can sell poor quality clothes for a big price. Any host can provide low resources and slow speed and make you pay a lot for it but it doesn't mean that it's a good quality web hosting because it's more expensive. It's just business which wants to make a lot more money. You don't always get what you pay for. Don't let yourselves be fooled by the price.

The reason I pay more than a couple bucks a month for hosting is support, UX/UI - some sites are just easier to work with, Free Add-ons, Multiple domains/sites, Speed, Scalability and trust. I'm willing to pay a few bucks a month for a site I know I can trust will be there when I need them for what I need them for.

Do it right the first time and prepare for the future; it's worth it.

If you make a living from your website/s I think you go more for known trusted big services instead of cheaper once - It's like with phone companies - many people use something like Vodafone and they are much more expensive than many others.

Some sites need more resources than others, especially when getting big amounts of traffic. Those $1/mo hosting plans share the same resources (and ip!) with another, 10-20 sites, which is less than ideal and not desired if you have a serious project.

Blackhatworld must be hosted on a dedicated server and must be paying easily 3 figures a month.

In my experience, it is about Managed hosting.
Ive had very cheap hosting that won't help you at all, the answer always with the same template as "contact your developer to solve your issue".
Managed hostings will help you backing up, solving common issues when using a CMS, forum or anything. They will be your lifesavers.

If you try to solve your own issues, you will probably find yourself reading a lot and going nowhere sometimes.

Your system is your Business. I prefer not to worry about my servers. I have my own and paid out the nose for them, but I like to invest in myself.

Sometimes Expensive hosting means No downtime of server and better support staff. If you don't want your website to go offline and need good support from your hosting you choose what is the best and sometimes best is expensive.

Some other forums (can't mention here I'm gonna get banned for this probably). But I really don't recommend: there's a really slight chance of such a host surviving at least one annual billing cycle.

All these factors make host expensvie.. state of the art facility like Equinix, Latest servers, premium network, enterprise grade hardware, own staff, ISO certified, pay taxes.
When you see cheap hosting means someone is just reselling on other company servers or they are using cheap facility without ups or generator to compete.
But in the end only expensive will survive because of quality.

If you can and have the time manage your own server. Most do not or know how. There is a price point for everyone.

I manage our own Linode, once it's set up and configured it's pretty much easy going ... just routine updates like there is with a PC/Mac..
