why people buy expensive hosting

Cheap hosting up time is 99% while an expensive hosting has an up time of 99.99%. Up time affects the loading or you can say its the loading time. The loading time of your website is low on an expensive hosting while on a cheap one its high.Google rank is affected by the load time lower the load time better the rank of your website gets.

I have wondered about this too and I don't have an answer.

Personally for me the best platform is digitalocean. $5 vps, full control of the server, I don't care about the support, protected from ddos, incredibly easy to scale (you just basically turn off the node, change ram, cores, gbs and done you have scaled your server, literally takes maybe 60 seconds). And the best thing you don't need to pay the full amount. I can use the server for 10 days to test some things out or run some quick tasks and done! Paid $1.50 only.

When other server providers charge a lot more for the same server, you need to pay them upfront for the month, difficult to scale as you probably will need to deal with their support asking for more ram, then they send you an invoice, you pay the invoice and contact them again for them to check if they got the money and only then they scale your servers. Too much hassle, too expensive, too little freedom.

(this isn't promotion I'm just really happy with their service and been an user for a few years now with 0 problems at all and server was down maybe once for a few minutes in 3 years!)

Well no as a VPS you DONT have control of the server. Your still in a virtual environment. And even when you want more "cores" and "ram" you need to read and know EXACTLY how much or a % of that ram you actually have... because although the VPS maybe 16GB ram you could only have 1MB! ...

Not trying to nit pick - well I am... but a VPS and a SERVER are two different things.
