Backlinks get removed from Google all the time. That's why it is important to be consistent with creating new, quality backlinks.

I have this Education site with 500k plus visit per month, and I have not created any link for 3+ years. The traffic has decreased to less than 200k in 2019 and just found out that almost all of the links I built in the early days have died off.

So I agree with you that we must be consistent in creating new BL once in a while.

I really don't know about this. But after BERT update my kwywords are in top 10. Or maybe it's the effect of backlinks which I have created.
