Domain flipping to local business

Hi guys,

I noticed most of the local stores here offering a service or even restaurants dont have their domain name registered .

Since the domains cost only a few bucks, I was wondering If i can resell it for a higher price to the store owners? Or even build a wordpress site for them.

Any thought? Did anyone ever try this or are there any legal problems registering a domain name such as willisrestaurant.com ?

You could register restaurantname.com but they could still register .net, .org, ... , or even local endings like .us, co.uk. , ... ,

You can however resch out to them and offer your service which works great if you stay consistent. 1 out of 10 or maybe 20 might be interested

you can sell simple websites to small companies, gotta come up with some sort of sales pitch though on why they need a website.

Interesting idea.

My gut reaction is your failure rate would be high, however, if you charged enough and maybe offered upsells on hosting or social media services it could be worthwhile.

You could approach them with a skinned mockup of a site and say 'Do you want this on companyname.com?' without even registering the domain upfront.

If you want to go a little grey hat but be legal but not nice. Buy there domain and create a landing page for a competitor and send all traffic there with a buy this site.

Joechicken.com no goes to Petessteak.com, then grab all th socials too and bundel them.

at the end it will cost you 10$ 40 mins of time, new email and chance to make 150 plus for all of it.

have your girlf friend go in and ask why there site goes to the steak place when you grab food some night

If you go specific, such as Max's Meatballs, then you have the very real possibility of facing a trademark complaint (UDRP) filed against you.

I recommend that you go general, such as (CityName)Meatballs. You can poll the meatball restaurants in the area and sell to the highest bidder, as I talked about briefly here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/basics-of-domain-flipping.1170925/#post-12605617 . After that, you can always upsell the "winner" with a specialized domain/website of their own, e.g. Max's Meatballs, and have the geo domain redirect to that.

Yes offering it to a competitor came also to my mind. E.g. joesfurniture is a big company but doesnt have a website.

Make them a proposal to create a website (or just sell the domain) and at the same time tell them johnsfurniture.com is also interested buying this site

That's actually money in OP's pocket. I love when companies buy lesser extensions. I just build out the .com with competitor links and the company with the .net/.org/lesser extension that no one remembers comes to me, begging to buy the .com. I've made a small fortune over the years in this stream alone.

i operate about 30 .net and .org sites that generate thousands for me - i have 50 .com and these do fine as well but... i know for a fact that my clients remember .net and .org . us .whatever.. its only about the marketing
