PBNs really worth it?

What I don`t understand about PBNs...

I pay 1 k or more for a top domain and then I have to create Text, which will cost around 2 k or more and I need to do the SEO work + release updates like new blog posts... this can take around 20 till 100 hours. If I earn 100 USD an hour, this is up to 10 k.

Ofc I can scrape an average Domain for free and just copy text from the wayback machine. But it seems this is not best practise.

Instead, for lets say 15k, I can buy a ton of guest posts on big sites.

Why is it still better du build a PBN?

Because there are lots of pbn sellers on BHW. Your prices are off though, it is cheaper. In the end the right way to rank is the way that works. PBS do work but aren't always necessary and the cost/benefit scenario is influenced by many things like your budget, if you have other sites that fall under the same niche, keyword competition, etc.

It doesn't always make sense to invest in a PBN.

However, if you're in an industry where commissions are extremely high, and it might be hard to acquire legitimate guest posts or outreach links, it makes perfect sense.

Your figures are wildly off though for the high level builds you use as an example.

If you're smart in the expired domain market, you can pick up real high-quality domains for $100 - $400, have the content and setup done for under $100.

There are many tactics to develop your own PBN. When you use right one, it will give you good ROI. Besides - you can use same PBN sites for multiple clients/sites, so the costs are splitted.

I think you did the maths wrong...
First: why a guy that is worth $100/hour is going to be writing the basic content?.
If you feel so "valuable", you should be even outsourcing the site creation and trying to minimize your work on the PBN.

Also: how a guest post in the greatest newspaper, that might be placed like 5 or 6 clicks away the main site, can compete with a $1K high reputation site link in a home page?

You should read about OPR (OnPage Rank).
Guest posts nowadays are not super-great. Only worth for diversity of link profile. Most $3K guest posts in high level newspapers are worth a $300 in your own PBN. Only big companies that have depleted all their options invest in those types of links. Is like when you work as a broker. Is not the same optimizing a $1M fund than a $500M fund. You cannot "micro-manage" the same way.

This is a load of BS. The 'greatest newspaper in the world's will outrank your PBN. Aside from the massive boost in traffic while the article is on the homepage, you will get organic search traffic for years as it's a real site with a large volume of visitors.

PBNs are useful due to reusability and fine control, yes. And some PBNs do have legit traffic. But there are more effective and cheaper ways to do guest posts that will reap the exact same benefits except you won't own the site.

yes... pbns can be worth it. But the the thing with them is that you better have a profitable keyword that justifies building a network.

There is a time and place for using each and every weapon in your arsenal. If you can build a PBN network, then it will help you get your sites off the ground pretty fast and start ranking for a number of keywords. You can create PBNs in multiple niches and use niche-specific links to new sites, rank them and earn from them. This would be more large scale and helpful in the long run as you are able to cater to multiple sites(thus multiple sources of income) at a minimal cost.

Comparatively Guest posts will always be catered to a single website and you'll have to outreach and build links- which depends on the whims of others. it takes time every time and cannot be implemented on a large scale easily- the investment will be larger in the long run if we are comparing with PBNs.

On the plus side, there are some keywords and niches where PBNs doesn't always show promise. Highly competitive niches are like that. You HAVE to outreach and get guest posts if you want these keywords to rank. Your PBNs will NEVER compare to those niche-specific AUTHORITY sites that can improve your contextual relevance with a few links.

It depends on how you want to approach the subject and what your end goal is. They have their own merits.

Maybe cheaper. Not more effective for sure unless the PBN
The effectiveness you can achieve with a PBN is practically unlimited
With a guest post you are attached always to other's strings which may vary in a thousand aspects: OPR + stickiness + reputation
In a PBN you only have to take into account 1 variable: reputation

The only advantage I see in guest post, is that if you find a guest post with enough trustworthyness to get long term stickiness, and is a evergrowing site, it's a little bit like investing: you pay for a 40DR site and maybe in a few years you have an incoming link from a 60DR site. In a PBN you will never have this and it could even fade over the time.

For me this is the only valid argument to value a guest post over a PBN
