Hi,

Recently I started to work at trade fairs as a temporary worker. This gave me the opportunity to talk with various people from all over the world and exchange information about their work.

A few weeks ago, I sat down with a businessman from Turkey. He owns a yachting agency that is very well known and successful in their region.
He rents his yachts to closed groups for one week each with food and drink. Guests spend wonderful holidays on the yacht with moody music, best food and many activities.
We talked about the possibility that he could sell his tours online, especially with Facebook Ads very well. For example, special yoga tours only for women or other special features that could be noted in his advertising. For this he has asked me to present my ideas to him and that I could work on commission for his agency.

The hook of all this is that renting a complete yacht for a week costs about 20,000 € for 16 people and the yachts are located in turkey.
So 1.250 € per person + flight ticket to turkey is a high ticket to sell.

I think it's not as easy as selling through dropshipping a product that costs under $ 100 or sells some digital services. After all, the guests want to spend their money on a good holiday, so many will certainly not buy a tour because of the distance and lack of trust.

So what's your opinion about this business?

.. the power of his business hides in his connections :)

Well spent a holiday on yacht is one of a kind experience and 1.250 € per person i think is decent, exclude flight ticket if you are from outside turkey.

Instead of enlarging your target audience, why don't you shrink it? Target the countries that are close to turkey and ofcourse the ones in Turkey as well.
Banner ads would help you reach miles where the price is openly displayed. Only those willing to spend ^^1500^^ for this will click on your ads and you get to interact to only those who are really planning for this instead of window shoppers. Now whether you do, Facebook/Insta Ads or Google/Bing PPC even SEO that's all upto you but keep in mind this gig requires targeting elites so you have to be in places where elites love to spend time and might as well be interested to scroll through a few vacation ideas. Your Target audience is small as it is, don't narrow it down any further by filtering yoga sessions and stuff like that.
In cases where you are promoting travel offers you need to make sure you are innovating and bringing something new to the table. You'll have to suggest the reasons why they should plan a vacation on your yacht and the places they could go, the REASONS are the KEY here!

Think bigger, bro.

Why not start the AirBnB of Yachts?

Write a business plan (I can already see the outline in my mind)

Get angel investors to fund a site and app development and a biz dev guy

Land your first listings

Raise more money and get a marketing campaign going

Sell out for big cash to a larger app that's CONSOLIDATING the industry

Rinse and repeat

It's a good business model. But you are going to have to be deliberate with your targetting. Also you are going to have to build a funnel of some sort. Because most people will not buy a high priced ticket item on the first view. So you will need a way to get them interested over time.

It may take more specialized marketing. I think facebook has certain limits, but if it can market to higher income it would be ideal for this.

AirBnB for yachts now thats interesting and yes that yoga thing doesnt make any sense to me

I think it does sound like a good business, especially if the commissions are there. As others have said, marketing would need to be very finely tuned. For the yoga thing, you'd want to target large yoga studios (think ones with multiple locations) as they would be the most likely to have the 20k to rent the yacht. Best to see what kind of people are already customers and then target those kind of people where they go online. I doubt it's facebook, but maybe Pinterest.

I've seen some agencies in USA and Mexico, doing very good on sales with Yachts and all that type of things, what they do to advertise is get a group of models, or influencers, bloggers etc, and make videos of them having a blast, drinking, in water jet skies etc with drones and that is a great advertising and it sells quite a loot. Hope you find the right solution and have a great partnership

I am a little skeptic about selling 20K EURO packages online.
This Turkish guy is selling them because he has his connections. Its not like opening a shop and people will come and buy it.

20,000 € for a week on a yacht is a steal.

I'm sure there is a market for that.
Depends what kind of yacht he is offering. ;)

Influencer marketing has also been my first thought but it is difficult to find the right audience. Who exactly pays such a high sum a holiday through an online agency.

That is not big enough for 16 people for a week... heck they cannot even sit together at dinner.

I think he is being a tad ambitious in saying 20 people.

Maybe 6 - 8 though.

I would not market that.

This one has 6 cabins for 12 guests.

This one is for 12 guests.

12 is a push too.

8 max.

I know a little bit about boats, small and large and I would not market that for 12 person week excursion.

Fine for a day trip though for 12... probably a blast for a day trip for a dozen actually.

Edit: it may be something you can make money on but you do want to do some serious due diligence if your name is attached to the marketing. If not, sell it like a crazy man.
