Logo Designers! Do you draw images?

I was in the market for a logo.
I contacted a trusted logo maker.
He asked for what I wanted.
I told him and provided him with Google image examples.
He said that would require image creator and he is a logo maker and that there is a difference?
I was upset as this seemed wrong.

Am I the ass hole?

I eventually got it after he contacted his image creator and made me feel like a douche for causing him more work.

I'd have thought the same as you, if he doesn't create the images then what does he do?

I thought the same. I mean, I am by no mean a professional graphic designer but I've been watching literally hundreds of youtube tutorials and guides on how to make your own custom designs and logos mostly for print on demand I have gotten to a point where I am rather good at Illustrator (Not so much photoshop).

And in the vast majority of all the tutorials and courses, I've watched the instructor recommends to draw several predesign or sketches of the concept you have in mind. You let your mind wonder about it and then when you have like 5 or 6 of these decide what elements fit best with your concept, scan it (I have to do this since I don´t have a drawing tablet just yet) and upload it into Illustrator when you start your "linework" using the pen tool.

This guy surely just put pre-made images together and delivers a "collage" of work together. Not questioning his results, maybe he delivers high-quality work just questioning his "creative" process.

Agreed. I wanted to work with him as he was highly recommended. But I guess just really good at making collage work not new designs. No judgement, just not what was advertised.

I have seen logo designers sketch images in their notebook after that scan and draw in illustrator.

He puts the images together into a nice design. However this seems strange for a logo design that he'd ask you to send assets.

Good designers make sketches and then layer over a photo of the sketch in the background.

But good designers cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars per image.

Hmmm. That seems like an exaggeration. Appreciate the comment but does a simple line sketch of a cat cost thousands or even hundreds? Maybe it does and I am not buying the real thing. Just seems like a lot.

I was quoted $1,800 for a letter "c".

Later paid $450 for a custom text logo.

I guess it just seems like a lot. yes. I'm not sure if I would buy a logo service that was that much. I guess that is my fault for not wanting to pay that much. I'm not trying to argue. I'm not a designer. If that is how much it costs, then that is how much it costs. I will re-think my web presence.
