i've been using namecheap for a years, and never have a problem with them. but, reading this thread makes me a li'l bit worry.. maybe i should start movin on my domain and hosting somewhere else...

I dont have many problem as well, but when it comes to renewing they are totally fucked up. Especially when you have one domain, which is getting lots of traffic.

In regards to the domain renewal policy is fucking legit. Now if they are good as a hosting provider is something I cannot comment on.
I'm sure that you had not renew your domain even when was on grace period, and so there is a renewal penalty fees (redemption period).
In regards to the refund.. they do have right to NOT refund a RENEWAL as they clearly state that their MBG is "30-day" again I guess that OP had sign up for annual plan for their dirty cheap annual offers.
Next time try with any of the EIG brands

Please read again.
Tl:dr -> Renewed domain and hosting (both were together), Namecheap then refunded the domain, told me it is not available and I have to pay 200 bucks for it to get it. They then refused to refund the hosting, which was completely useless without the domain.
Now you said: Thats what the rules for those domains state.
Then I say: Ok, why would they let me renew it then and refund it a few minutes later, just to tell me I can renew it for $200?

Many registrars impose an extra fee on domains that have expired. Godaddy does it too.

Yes, but why would they let me renew it then first? Their system should directly say: Renewal costs 200 bucks. The way they did it and how they told me was such an obvious scam. The funniest part is they said it was a "mistake on their system" but then they refused to refund the hosting, even it was part of the renewal.

We have a saying here in egypt, "give the bread to his baker" meaning, they will always be good in domain registration, ssl certificate...ETC) but they are not specialized in hosting so of course they will have crappy overpopulated servers. As for support, yes i agree, everyone is either downsizing or going offshore with no regards to the impact whatsoever as long as they save a buck.
