A lot of newbies ask questions and when they get BS answers, they often take it for granted and keep Fing themselves up.

I think there should be a user reported button on comments. This could go very well with the right tweaks but wrong without. But, I envision something where say like 5 users press the not helpful button and a banner appears over the message "a number of users have reported this information as not helpful. Please continue at your own risk."

What are the chances people are going to abuse it?

So JR and VIP will decide if they like the content or not?this is a public forum not some censorship a comment is a comment even if nots helpful that is why a public forum exists to discuss..

Cuz that's not what I said lmao. I said have people vote on it so LQ members who post trash, noob members can see that more tenured members disagree with the content. Not saying g it's wrong but that they should question it and not a lot of noobs do that. They take it for face value

I dont agree with it ,and people with agenda can end up making a good post vanish. Comments shouldnt be based on some vote, that is insane, this a public forum for the general public all comments are welcomed even if they arent helpful, this post is more on how YOU want it..

all comments are welcomed even if they arent helpfu

Actually we delete hundreds of comments on a daily basis so not all are welcome.

Granted there are going to be comments that are not helpful that stay up but comment spam is something the staff works to clean every day.

I don't know about the idea that is being posted is good or bad but I understand the basis of the thought process which is to help keep the forum from turning into a spam fest.

Well of course comments that are spam or break the forum rules deserve to be deleted, but he was pretty much suggesting a comments based on how he feels or likes.

Getting rid of anything that's objectively unhelpful would be fantastic. Finding an unabuseable implementation would not be an easy task.

But the implementation isn't the biggest problem, it's the motivation. This forum (god bless it, no offence intended), like the internet at large, is somewhere around 90% filler, and downright bullshit. If you stripped out everything that wasn't worth being here, like the 10,000th "how do I mek lotz monees 2day?" Threads, there's not enough left to support a site, and who here doesn't care about their bottom line?

tl;dr: Your idealism is noble, but I think you're pursuing a lost cause.

Are you actually reading?

I repeatedly said that It would not be members moderation and removing posts, just a banner that says " a number of users have reported this information as not helpful. Please continue at your own risk."

If the suggestion is to merely have an indicator of public agreement or disagreement (separate to the thanks button since you can agree or disagree and still thank someone for their contribution) without censoring the consent I think that would be alright. That would let people know if they should be cautious with a suggestion.

Correct but the content is not at all filtered. It just says that some members have reported this content as not useful. Such as "spam 50k gsa ser backlinks at your site and you'll rank #1"

Dear lord do do you not understand my posts? Please lets not go back and forth comments are comments that is it.Even if its not helpful what if its helpful to one person but not ten other people? We dont need anybody deciding any agendas this is a public forum even if people down voted the comment most usually go by how they feel even if it containts valuable information..

The reality is you made this thread so you can further YOUR agenda on how you feel is a comment..

And also were did i say remove posts? All im saying picking and choosing comments or let users team up on a "comment" has no purpose.

This a public forum people will have different opinions, comments or views no need to give them a banner on it..

Cause you dont agree with it.

@blackwalker I know what you mean. Some of the stuff on the forum is definitely mental gymnastics. It almost sounds like a bot is talking.

I just read a thread where the first comment gave the answer to the OP's question, but the OP responded with another question that made it clear they did not even read the comment before responding to it.

BHW is still #1 in my eyes, but somewhere along the way a good portion of the members have become confused, or they are not paying attention, because they are not connecting the dots. I have noticed that a lot of member's questions and their approach to IM are not even logical:

"I built up my website with 50 backlinks and articles. Now how do I monetize it?"

The question is backwards. Why is something being built without knowing how to make money with it?

I don't think people are on BHW to make money anymore, because I have not seen anyone talk about conversions since I became a member of the forum this year. I think everyone is here to build websites with articles and rank them:
"spam 50k gsa ser backlinks at your site and you'll rank #1"

I don't think we should have a button or anything warning people about bad advice, because this is BHW and this is the real world. And let's face it, if people believe this:
"spam 50k gsa ser backlinks at your site and you'll rank #1"

then maybe they deserve to get penalized, lol. They aren't paying attention to how Google works if they take that advice. They haven't done their homework. You got in trouble as a child at school for not paying attention in class and not doing your homework. BHW does not have time to re-teach lessons people should already know. We teach blackhat methods. If people do not research and pay attention to what methods they are adding to their business, then that's on them.

Stackoverflow has a system in place that works well and does what I believe you are suggesting. After X amount of downvotes from users with X authority the comment is grayed out and visibly marked down so others can see its not helpful. Don't think its built into BHWs forum software but its a cool idea.

Maybe a few "reputable" members could be nominated with the ability to flag comments meeting that criteria on a thread, with maybe moderators / higher level members being able to oversee this once in a while.

Those are called moderators. I'm suggesting like jr vip or even a bigger minority being able to basically downvote a post like jamie said.

I like this idea, sometimes Jr. Vip get it wrong but its not like its deleting the comment, just marking it as unhelpful.

In reality Its hard to imagine how it would play out. Maybe the wording could be change to not piss people off with a short fuse haha (looks in the mirror)

Something like ... Some of The Vr. Vip community have flagged this information is incorrect.

It becomes difficult to implement though. What if 30 jr.vip have thanks the OP in a post for being so helpful and then the required 5 flag it is unhelpful.

I could see the rollout being tough to implement but I think it is a good idea and would be worth a shot to see how it works.

It could be restricted to even higher ups. ... say jr. vip with 1000 post or whatever ... jr executive team and above ...

Test this system out by having some sort limited release where at first Jr. executive and above use the function and see how it play out.

If you feel a comment is inaccurate, point out the reasons why. A semi-anonymous "'this is wrong but I won't tell you why" button doesn't help anyone, and it would be abused just as badly as the dislike/downvote option is abused on every other forum that has it.

Stackoverflow has a system in place that works well and does what I believe you are suggesting.
More often than not, the accurate answers are downvoted and hidden, and the highest voted answers are insisting that the asker switch to a different programming language or abandon the feature altogether.

Unlike programming or mathematics, SEO is much more subjective, so that effect would be greatly amplified thanks to the number of people who think certain tools/methods/companies are useless.
