Why is mentoring not allowed on BHW?

If this is better suited in 'Forum Suggestions & Feedback', please move.

I tried searching, but couldn't find any real answer.

I'm not in a position to mentor anyone, but just genuinely curious.

Through my AMA-threads on this forum, I've noticed it's pretty difficult to give any real value. You can't nitty down on the details, could take hours or even days between replies - which sort of breaks the conversation and flow - and you can't ask anything publically as you don't want all the attention from everyone else, just answer on your question.

Has mentoring ever been allowed on BHW?
If so, what happened to cause the ban of it?

Will BHW ever consider adding something like:
* Integrated forum livechat between users (Chatwee works with Xenforo)
* Slack/Discord/Freenode

Sorry if this has been discussed already - did my very best to find any answers.

Cheers,

Are you referring to a sold/paid mentoring on the Marketplace?
Like instead of an e-book a call where the method is being mentored/taught in-depth?

If so, I would guess that results differ strongly from call to call, hence scam reports could be hard to resolve, users feel scammed as they received a different quality then somebody else, problems in communication, etc.

Thread Moved

If I recall correctly, the mentoring/personal coaching rules were implemented around the time I joined the forum. There were too many issues with scams and claims of scams like the one @AestheticHustler described above.

You can find some older posts like the one below talking about it on the forum.
Not allowed due to many people getting scammed and they are left without their money. Best you can do is open up a JV thread so you can partner up with someone. But if you want someone to teach you, best you can do is read the forum threads and learn from that.
It's just too easy for someone to join the forum, claim they made a bunch of money, offer a personal coaching service, and then run off with the money.

To clarify, you can still help people on the forum for free, you just can't ask for anything in return. I used to help out a few members on the forum for free back when I had the time and I know of several other members who do the same even now.

If I recall correctly, there was a time when mentoring was a thing on BHW but too many “gurus” were offering this and just ripping people off. It’s just too easy to lie and give people “advice”. On the flip side, even great advice could result in a dispute if the person doesn’t like what they are hearing. Can you imagine how difficult and time consuming it would be for mods to go through that kind of dispute?

I could be thinking of another forum though so maybe it’s for a completely different reason here.

Edit: looks like an admin beat me to the reply lol

Sorry, I must of explained poorly. I'm not on about mentoring as a service, or even as a JV.

What I mean is the AMA-threads for example, but in a different format (say Skype). I've been under the impression this is against the rules, as it classify as mentoring (even though I ask nothing in return).
You mean free mentoring? Like if I asked you about some e-Commerce or Shopify inquiries on Skype and you'd call and explain them to me or even just write them on Skype?
I don't think that's considered banable, but correct me if I'm wrong @Zwielicht (or anyone else). :)

@yakuzaemme I'd be happy being mentored by you :P

Yeah - exactly. I have a few BHW members on my Skype, and whenever they ask a question I have to refer them to the thread.
I'm not entirely sure, but I if recall correctly I offered people help on Skype back in 2016 and got a warning for it - and haven't dared to do so since :P

When you leave this site, you generally lose any and all protections this site could offer you. I don't think there's any harm in chatting with people via Skype of course so I guess a completely free mentor would be fine?

Edit: I got sniped by another staff member below lol. Listen to what they say :)

Taking a discussion with a bunch of people to a Skype group/Discord/Slack/Telegram channel is taking the members to a different platform (forum).

Discussions that begin on BHW in a forum format should stay on BHW.

What if I want someone to mentor me and I take all risk is that allowed.

If I approach them

Any chance we can do this only for members with good solid reputation and see how it fares out?

Like only a limited Skype group but if someone is caught off topic then he will be removed from the Skype group...

But if I ask, due to a thread @yakuzaemme made, him a question via DM and in the course of this discussion we move to Skype (a messaging platform) and he explains some things there it's the same as a DM on BHW, basically.

I think this would be wrong too. We had even moderator in the past, who was shitlisted and banned for stealing people cash.
Rank is nothing on this forum. You can have good reputation here, but someday turn it into cash stealing machine.
No, this would be wrong. Reputation needs to be build for whole time. So if someone write to me, he is Jr.VIP, I laugh.

Probably because men

Damn, you got me. For a second I thought @MisterF was downgraded and then realized. Haha

One on one via Skype is fine; I would not do that but it is not against the rules.

A skype group is not fine and will get one a warning for promoting other forums.

This was what I thought would be the primary reason not to allow free mentoring.

Which is also why I asked about the integrated chat on the forum. From my understanding there are pre-made plugins for this for Xenforo already.

Only for certain members like the OP we can warn people right before dealing with them...

I mean there are people getting shitlisted and we have so many threads where we warn people to not buy from non jrvip members right?

I have no idea about the plugins but I would bet that it could be implemented.

If you would like to see that implemented please create a new thread requesting that.

I personally would not use it as I'm not a fan of that kind of communication online as I have a few things I juggle and that would get in the way of my flow.

I'm not saying it is a bad thing I'm just saying I would ignore that feature 90% of the time.

Haha! I've had this avatar for I guess nearly 10 years now so when I saw he had it I was like wtf man?? He's a cool dude though :P

Will do!

For now though, as I want to be perfectly clear.
Would this be considered as allowed?

1) Create a thread in Jr. Vip offering free 1-to-1 mentoring through DMs or Skype
2) Clearly make sure it's free, and I get zero benefit from it, direct or indirect.
3) Put in my signature that I offer free 1-to-1 mentoring in the Jr. Vip forum

This would both help members on the forum looking for that extra help, and possibly the forum getting more people upgraded to Jr. Vip.
